(notability)[edit]

I object to the recommendation for this article's deletion on the grounds that I did not base it solely on her notability for creating Hobbits' feet in Lord of the Rings. She is also notable for her illustrations for which she was awarded the Kate Greenaway Medal. A full list of recipients can be viewed here. As you can see, the majority of its awardees have articles devoted to them. For this reason, I believe that the article should be kept. sxebill (talk) 01:55, 29 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It is unclear to me that the award is enough to justify her notability. It's clear to me however that her other endeavors do not satisfy the notability guidelines. In general she does not seem to satisfy the criteria of WP:CREATIVE. It also appears that you may have a conflict of interest in this creation of this article. Is that true? Do you know her by any chance? Jason Quinn (talk) 02:47, 29 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The award has been given 53 times in the past 55 years. There are only 10 people who have received that medal that do not have an article about them. If winning this award does not meet the criteria for inclusion in Wikipedia, then I think somebody needs to look at a dozen or two of the articles for Kate Greenaway Medal winners, because they surely don't qualify, either. Also, Miss Blackwood and I were born more than a decade apart and we have nearly 10,000 miles between us. I was looking at redlinks and saw her name; I had no idea who she was until I wrote this article. Are you by any chance following me? Maybe it's just paranoia, but it seems like you're contesting my contributions in particular. sxebill (talk) 03:21, 29 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It's paranoia. You are a new editor that created a page that was speedily deleted. I checked the other page you created. It appears that it may not meet notability guidelines either. The number of other winners of this award that have pages does not determine if the others should have pages. The important factor is how "major" this award is and if this single accolade is enough to merit her inclusion into Wikipedia. I have my reservations. Balancing between including too many and too few is tough. This is a borderline case and deserves discussion. Jason Quinn (talk) 03:42, 29 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not a new editor, I've been registered on Wikipedia and making small contributions since the start of this year and I have never created a page that was speedily deleted. Also, this is my first and (so far) only full article contribution to Wikipedia.
On an only partially unrelated note, I'd like to point out that, since Wikipedia is based online, it is my opinion that we should err on the side of too many. This article won't burden anybody who isn't looking for it, and it has no media files so it can't take up that much server space. sxebill (talk) 04:05, 29 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sources[edit]

{{Authority control}} in the article footer links LC and other catalog data.

The article gives two CILIP references for the 2010 Greenaway Medal, the retrospective citation and the announcement press release, but I haven't substantially used their content. At least two other 2010 press releases are likely to be useful here, "Background ..." and "... Judges comments on the shortlist". --P64 (talk) 20:00, 18 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
