For You (Ricky Nelson song)For You (1933 song) — Songs are typically disambiguated either by original performer (for more recent songs) or by original year of publication (for older ones). These are two objective criteria that avert arguments about which version is most significant, popular, etc. The article should be located at (1933 song), not dabbed by identifying it with a particular later performer.—ShelfSkewed Talk 16:13, 12 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose Naming it for a specific performer is imperfect, but it seems much more likely to be identified as a Ricky Nelson song than as a song written in 1933. Ideally in such cases, the performer who released the song first is also the best-known performer of the song, so you can just label it with that name and it works okay. But if users are unlikely to recognize the earliest performer, how can they be expected to recognize the year that the earliest performer released it? And, for what it's worth, WP:NCM says: "Disambiguate albums and songs by artist and not by year unless the artist releases multiple albums with the same name." Propaniac (talk) 17:02, 19 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Revisit page move[edit]

I'm in favor of renaming the article to For You (1933 song). One cannot define this song as a Ricky Nelson song, since it had existed for 30 years before he ever recorded it. Older hit songs were often sung by many artists and sometimes even released at the same time (see Young Love (1956 song), and it is not correct to disambiguate by the "biggest hit" version. --Starcheerspeaksnewslostwars (talk) 00:04, 2 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
