Untitled[edit]

It is not clear who will become the head teacher of Fo Guang Shan after the passing away of Ven. Hsing Yung. It is also very unpolite to speculate publicly about "who comes after" when a man is getting old. These are the reasons why I deleted the sentence about Hsin Ting becoming the head teacher. --Herbertludwig 18:00, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Just wanted to point out, lest we go back and forth, that the ordination lineage of FGS is Linji Ch'an, and not Pureland. Now, this has basically nothing to do with whatever may be practiced there, or what it may look like, this is purely a matter of ordination lineage. This can be seen in such basic things like the list of Patriarchs in the Triple Platform ordination used by FGS. This besides, Shifu has stated clearly about the "eight traditions" as all accepted practices by FGS. This is obvious in Chinese literature about FGS and Humanistic Buddhism, but don't know how much has appeared in English, or if anybody is reading it. Huifeng 14:34, 2 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

necessary? update?[edit]

I think the whole "Fo Guang Shan order of precedence" should be taken out. Even though it states in the article that it has nothing to do with succession, but later on it says"...who are later elevated to the fifth in succession..." Additionally, it states that "...indication of ceremonial or historical relevance. In particular, length of monastic ordination, a notion relevant to Buddhism as a whole..." But for 4. president of BLIA subchapter and 5. BLIA members, the previous indication does not apply. This whole section should be taken down.

There are also a number of informaiton need to be updated:

1.Under "Publications and Media", the Beautiful Life TV is not only limited to Taiwan. Viewer in North America with certain Satellite Channel subscription can watch that channel.

2. Under branch Temples, North America, I see a number of places still says BLIA - (location) but some of them has a temple already. For example, Toronto. If it's refer to "branch temple", it should always be "IBPS-(locaiton)" or "Fo Guang Shan - (location)" such as IBPS-NY or Fo Guang Shan - New York. BLIA does not reflect the branch temple.

3. For Branch Schools, it looks like whoever wrote this only list the "regular" school and exclude the Sanga School. Even that, there're more schools now.--Frankyz (talk) 21:03, 21 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with regards the "order of precedence", I frankly do not know what it actually corresponds to in FGS itself, and actually isn't based on age, whatever the comment says. Huifeng (talk) 08:44, 8 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Errors in "Innovations" section[edit]

This section states: "five continents in 173 countries, and now encompasses more than 3,500 monastics." I think that the "five continents" is correct (by Chinese understanding of what a continent is, anyway), but that the "173 countries" is exaggerated. For the figure of "3,500" monastics, what it refers to, I believe, is that over the decades, ~3500 monastics have ordained through FGS with Ven Master Hsing Yun as their preceptor. However, at present there are no more than about 1,500 monastics in the FGS system. The other 2000 were either associated with other monasteries in the first place, have since left for other monasteries, or have disrobed. More importantly, I don't think that any of this is relevant to "Innovations" at all. Any thoughts before I make the changes to this? Huifeng (talk) 04:08, 28 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, there are more notable "innovation". I think either the title of the section should change from "innovation" to something else, or list notable innovation.Frankyz (talk) 19:55, 8 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
