history of the mechanism[edit]

the article claims the flyback function was introduced by Breitling in 1923. here is a quote from a book on athletics, describing how an athletics championship meeting is conducted: "The remaining officials are the timekeepers - three in number - for in these days of 'record-breaking' there must be no doubt about times. After each race the three are to compare their watches and then announce the official times. All have 'fly-back' stop watches marking the division of the second into fifths." that book was published in 1887 and is describing the AAA Championship meeting held at Stamford Bridge, London on 3 July 1886. it is called "Athletics and Football" and it was written by Montague Shearman, the founder of the Amateur Athletic Association. I don't claim to know when flyback stopwatches were invented, but it certainly wasn't 1923. Cottonshirtτ 02:28, 3 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
