Fair use rationale for Image:Coast guard flag.gif

Image:Coast guard flag.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Displayed in US civilian courts ?

The US Flag with yellow border is openly displayed in US civilian courts. Criminal courts for sure, and probably civil courts as well. I think a section needs to be added to address this issue, as there is widespread speculation on the web regarding this (to include, but not limited to: All US citizens are under martial law and have been since the civil war, we are under admiralty law, as based on the UCC system, etc). —Preceding unsigned comment added by Gizziiusa (talk • contribs) 12:44, 19 September 2010 (UTC)

Using a flag with fringe is not indicative of anything asside from pretty fuzzy stuff. I doubt there are any decent and reliable sources for this, and probably not worth the attention per Wikipedia:Fringe theories (the other definition of "fringe" in this case). bahamut0013wordsdeeds 12:06, 20 September 2010 (UTC)
Is this not reliable enough ? It does quote some law, and considering that there are far too many laws, rules, regulations, ordinances, etc in place in the USA. Yeah... I'd say that's definately fringe theory. Tell you what... If you can get that website full of conspiracy theories deemed reliable by the folks at Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard, then get some consensus at Talk:Flag of the United States, I'll mention it somewhere here. bahamut0013wordsdeeds 12:16, 22 September 2010 (UTC)

Flag of the Vice Commandant of the Coast Guard

How do I change the flag of the Vice Commandant of the Coast Guard? He now holds the rank of Admiral (O-10) vice Vice Admiral (O-9). His flag reflects the change of rank as it is now a flag with four stars on it. Jusfiq (talk) 10:36, 12 July 2016 (UTC)

DoD PA is wrong on this one (and commonly is on this). There are only six branches (Nat'l Guard is just a reserve component with a joint activity). Garuda28 (talk) 15:06, 26 October 2020 (UTC)
