I don't think that the flag of tunisia is inspired by tht flag of turkey "Red is a prominent color in Turkish history, especially regarding the bloody battles of the Turkish War of Independence. The crescent and star, while generally regarded as Islamic symbols today, have for long been used in Asia Minor and by the old Turks, quite before the advent of Islam. The flag was originally simply a crescent on a green field, but this was changed in 1793 when Sultan Selim III changed the background to red. In 1844, the star was added." Minor change[edit]

From : "The flag was readopted upon independence from France since it had been the flag of Tunisia before the arrival of Europeans."
To : "The flag was readopted upon independence from France since it had been the flag of Tunisia under Ottoman control."
1) Ottoman Empire was part of Europe, so "Tunisia before arrival of Europeans" means nothing.
2) Tunisia was under Ottoman domination and never existed before 1956 as an independant nation-state. It was as a Barbary State under nominal control of the Sublime Porte.

good article. Some suggestions for FA: make sure everything is crystal clear; there were some areas in the history section that were a bit unclear. also, maybe put the flags in chronological order if they're not already. Use on land?[edit]

The star-and-crescent flag was introduced in 1835 (or 1831?) as the ensign of the Tunisian navy. But Smith (2000) appears to imply that it was also flown as a war flag on land in the late 19th century. What this article is lacking is evidence on when the flag was first seen on land. Apparently, it was not used as representing Tunisia in diplomatic contexts prior to 1956; the flag of the bey of Tunis (with the sword) was used for that. Flag as mentioned in the 2022 constitution[edit]

Apparently an error regarding the flag (among others) was introduced into the new Tunisian constitution following the constitutional referendum held in 2022, whereby instead of copying the text identifying the national flag from prior constitutions, the official Arabic version of the constitution (which supersedes the French version in the case of a conflict) had the text changed. Per Businessnews, "there are two ways to say the word star: the first in the feminine [grammatical gender] and the second in the masculine. The head of state opted for the masculine term: “Najm”. The word [for the white] disk is used in the article in the feminine form. As for the word "crescent", it was accompanied by a noun complement used in the feminine form," meaning that the text describes the white disk as being surrounded by the crescent (or the crescent surrounding the white disk), rather than surrounding both the crescent and star.
