Oats were certainly known in Ancient Israel, consumed by the Romans and even the Ancient Pharaohs. It may have been the first grain cultivated, and remains have been found with mummies even from 4000 years ago. Oats will rise, just not as much as wheat, and make adequate hard and soft flatbreads. (With a bit of practice, even a yeasted medium-high bread may be produced.) Drsruli (talk) 08:09, 1 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
