I tried to add a reference for the mining by fire setting alternative, but it didn't quite work...Abu ari (talk) 10:56, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Firing (disambiguation)Firing – This base name currently redirects to Termination (employment) as a WP:PRIMARYREDIRECT. But I am not sure we have a WP:PRIMARYTOPIC here. Seems like in terms of long-term significance and even usage, shooting as well as other topics at the dab page are of similar prominence. I also think Fired should be WP:SPLIT back out into its own disambiguation page (it was merged in 2008), and several other entries removed that don't meet MOS:DABMENTION, but that can be discussed separately. • Support per nomination. There are 18 entries listed upon the Firing (disambiguation) page, with no indication that the putative WP:PRIMARYREDIRECT holds such unchallenged primacy as to dwarf the combined notability of the remaining 17 entries. —Roman Spinner (talkcontribs) 01:33, 28 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • The argument is sound, and I'd be inclined towards supporting it, but https://wikinav.toolforge.org/?language=en&title=Dismissal_%28employment%29 indicates only a small percentage of clicks on the hatnote, and in turn 75 / 131 (~57%) of traffic at https://wikinav.toolforge.org/?language=en&title=Firing_%28disambiguation%29 goes back to this meaning. So I agree to split it off but then we check the stats a few months later to verify we didn't actually make navigation outcomes worse than they were before. Definitely agreed about the "Fired", it seems unlikely that anyone looking for "firing" would be implicitly looking for "fired" or vice versa, the extra click there is reasonable because it's a difference of 3 characters. --Joy (talk) 16:26, 28 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose The primary topic would indeed appear to be "fired from a job". The disambiguation page in this case should be moved to fired where the only actual confusion is. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 11:05, 4 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. Very definitely no primary topic here. -- Necrothesp (talk) 16:04, 4 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support the shooting and heat meanings are also common. Crouch, Swale (talk) 18:25, 4 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. Clear absence of a primary topic in light of the common usage with respect to firearms and the historically significant use with respect to kilns. BD2412 T 00:55, 5 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
