I have seen speculation that only 10% of serial killers are ever found, and 1/2 do not match the standard profile. Could this be because of the myth that there are very few female serial Killers. I can remember many times hearing that the latest female serial killer is the first known one. A quick online search reveals many hundreds of known female serial killers, some of whom are among the worst serial killers of all time (excluding political figures such as Hitler or Stalin, and military leaders). Thomas pendrake (talk · contribs), while there have been significantly more than a few female serial killers, it is true that female serial killers are rare. Serial killers in general are rare, but male serial killers are significantly more common than female serial killers are; this is according to various research into the topic of serial killers. One thing you need to be aware of is that some people, especially the media, are too loose with the term serial killer. Being a serial killer does not simply mean having murdered more than two or three people. If that was the case, then anyone who has murdered more than two or three people would be a serial killer; this includes soldiers and mob bosses. Flyer22 (talk) 23:20, 17 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
