Need some more credible sources[edit]

The article reads too much like an advertisement for this guy's activities, whatever they are. Does he really have any credibility? --RenniePet (talk) 07:11, 27 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The only network that seems to interview Evan Kohlmann is MSNBC, no doubt because he is an anti-Bush "expert" with an agenda. Those on MSNBC (Maddow, Olbermann, etc.) interview Kohlmann because he agrees with their own anti-Bush position on everything. Now their subject is Dick Cheney, a man with a distinguished career in public service, and one of the defenders of the current GITMO approach to detaining terrorists caught on the battlefield. MSNBC wants to bring these detainees to the US, and most Americans don't want them here. This Kohlmann section should be removed, I agree with the above commenter -- this is a fairly one-sided pro-Kohlmann writeup. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.194.82.167 (talk) 18:49, 21 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The Washington Post also cites him as a credible expert. I challenged Dana Priest about citing him, during one of her online Q&A. Just yesterday I saw video stamped with his NEFA foundation played on the evening news. Personally, I am not comfortable with the air of self-promotion I feel surrounds his work. But, the fact remains that, without regard to my personal reservations about him, the MSM -- not just MSNBC -- does rely on him.
Your characterization of him as an "anti-Bush 'expert'" surprises me. The Bush administration commissioned him to create a movie, the equivalent of one created for the Nuremberg trials that set the general context of Nazi atrocities, for the Guantanamo military commissions. I do not believe they would commission someone they considered "anti-Bush" to prepare what I strongly suspect is a propaganda peice.
When I started working on this article I did my best to refrain from editorializing or allowing my personal reservations about Kohlmann to slip into article space. I'd like to think I succeeded. Geo Swan (talk) 02:40, 24 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see a reason here for your reversion of my edits. It was a mess, frankly. My edits copyedit it in conformity with WP and AP guidelines -- I can't imagine why you reverted them.--Epeefleche (talk) 21:43, 23 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Kohlmann has no credibility. He neither speaks nor reads Arabic, Farsi, Kurdish, Dari, Pashtu, Baluch or any other language that one might consider important for an Islamic terrorism expert to know. He speaks English - not eloquently - and perhaps French & maybe enough Hebrew for Bar-Mitzvah. An expert he is not. He's just a younger version of Stephen Emerson, though I think Steve at least dabbled in journalism before going into the propaganda business. Evan has never published a peer-reviewed article on terrorism, history or Islam. His academic work on those subjects was strictly at the undergraduate level, if that. He's a pro-Israel opinion-shaper and a greedy, self-promoting opportunist who doesn't care about justice when he testifies as an expert witness in court. When Yassin Aref's defense attorneys deposed him, they discovered that he knew absolutely nothing about one of the Islamic Parties he was supposed to testify about as an expert until the night before the deposition, when he looked-up some (innaccurate) stuff about it on the internet. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.18.104.14 (talk) 00:17, 25 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Inappropriate deletion[edit]

I've reverted the odd deletion of a quote on the asserted basis of it being an "overlong" quotation. It is not even a block quote worthy length quote. And, of course, we accept block quotes, and even have templates for them. This certainly wasn't by any stretch an "overlong" quotation. Plus -- where there is an overlong quotation of material, like this material, that is clearly relevant and RS-supported, an editor bent on being helpful will of course shorten it. Not engage in wholesale deletion, as here. --Epeefleche (talk) 04:17, 29 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
