U-boat Footage[edit]

Doesn't it seem like Topp's boat is in all the footage filmed on U-boats?- JustPhil 02:29, 10 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The original wording with regards to the sinking of SS David Atwater implied that Topp's men machine-gunned lifeboats after they were launched. This is not clearly established (boats appear to have been attacked while the crew were trying to launch them, although it is not clear that they were not attacked after they were launched, given the chaotic circumstances), although the allegations that U-Boats were routinely machine-gunning survivors of the ships that they sank were rampant during the war. Given that no charges were brought against the Topp for what would have been a clear war crime and that he was in fact allowed to serve in the postwar German navy and rise high in ranks, it seemed best to soften the language.71.226.42.108 (talk) 23:16, 2 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Re-write[edit]

It seems to me that the article goes off at a bit of a tangent in the section 'Reuben James and Second Happy Time'. i.e. It mentions the USN ship, then Rooseveldt's reaction to the situation, and so on, all of which doesn't have much to do with Eric Topp.
I would say that the first two paragraphs should be re-written.
