Basic Information on ECP[edit]

ECP is located in the gene RCSB3 on chromosome 14 q24-q31. The structure was determined through X-ray diffraction at 1.4 angstroms with a R-value of 0.244 and a R-free value of 0.271. ECP is believed to be closely related to asthma. ECP is released by the eosinophilic gland when it is inflamed, thus causing an asthma attack. It is more common for the asthma attack to be related to an allergic reaction that causes the eosinophilic gland to swell. ECP concentrations have also been monitored to determine if elementary kids have an allergic reaction or bronchitis.
