Name[edit]

"USS" prefix - The USS should be removed from the article title. USS is only used on commissioned ships of the US Navy. This ship was not commissioned and never boar the title in real life. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.11.109.186 (talk) 16:27, 1 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

At first, I was inclined to agree, based on the DANFS entry not using it, until I remembered that none of the DANFS entries use the prefix. It was originally written without, but moved last year with the rationale of "Standardize naming convention". bahamut0013wordsdeeds 21:51, 2 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with the removal request because this boat was not a commissioned vehicle and is not referred to as "USS..."
The "United States Ship" USS is entirely incorrect when applied to a USN vessel or craft not in commission. Informally, the honorific is used even in naval usage for vessels once commissioned but never for one that was never commissioned. Use for a vessel such as this motorboat is as incorrect as "M/V" applied to a triple expansion engine steamship or "SS" applied to a Patrol Torpedo Boat (PT). 72.196.202.60 (talk) 12:08, 3 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

But the main reason for my post is that I have discovered a photo of this boat which can be found on pg 70 of "These are the Voyages" by Arnold van Beverhoundt at [1]which I have snipped if anyone is interested. I do not post it here BC of ©. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Egadgetguy (talkcontribs) 20:21, 27 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
