Marshall Mathers LP album cover

I think the illustration is the cover from the censored version. If this is right perhaps it should be changed for the original (sitting on the sidewalk).

This could easily be a feature article...

if there were sources. there is no doubt in my mind. All we need is sources.

Bono Live 8 quote

Removed: “Bono called me while I was in Africa and said ‘he’s not calling me back. I’ve got these pictures of kids wearing Eminem and D-12 t-shirts and we got them sent off to Eminem’s office but did we hear anything? It’s sad.'” But eminem knows this kid named angel and he allways goes to eminems house he has a mother named rocio and a father named alfonso from main article, because it's confusing -- grammar's off, and there's no source.Janet13 22:16, 27 November 2005 (UTC) Even tho m&m is in love with ashleigh he is having an affair with her best mate chloe!!!!!!1 its been going on for ages now!!!!

Assonance vs. alliteration

I deleted "assonance" from the paragraph explaining Eminem's skills. The sentence also mentions alliteration, which can either be assonance or consonance (redundacy). (Bob)

Sounds good. I'll leave it. -- RPIRED 04:41, 14 December 2005 (UTC)

They really aren't different things. Assonance: Alliteration as Square: Rectangle.

...last time I checked, if you told a teacher in the first grade that a square was a rectangle, you were probably the dumbest kid in the school ^_^ Dan 18:10, 20 January 2006 (UTC)

That's odd, since a square is a specific kind of Rectangle. Technically, the person you're replying to was correct. The box that looks like a stretched square is technically called an oblong; both are examples of rectangles. It's just that oblongs are commonly called "rectangles" today. -Kasreyn 18:54, 21 January 2006 (UTC)

That's fine, but he said rectangle. They're different things.. and alliteration would, I imagine, require a greater vocabulary than assonance.

What they actually were saying was "Assonance is to Alliteration as a square is to a rectangle." The colons mean it's an analogy. To be fair, it should have been "Assonance: Alliteration as Square:: Rectangle," but all the same, they're right. [/tangent]

I understand your analogy--and yes, a square's a regular rectangle, but many elementary school teachers will teach children they're different shapes--but alliteration specifically refers to repeated initial consonant sounds. Repeated vowel sounds (internal or initial) need not apply. MJFiorello 04:17, 3 February 2007 (UTC)

Alitteration and Assonance are two completely different think alliteration is when the first letters of words are the same and assonance is repetition of similar vowel sounds.

I added the torture allegations to the trivia section. --Viriditas 03:20, 20 December 2005 (UTC)

the purpose of this article is to give an overview of Eminem, with a focus on his music -- not a tell-all biography. i'm not sure all this new info is necessary. Stoned Trey 06:33, 26 December 2005 (UTC)

Firstly, with Eminem specifically, information on his personal life is more relevant than for most other artists, as it help interpret a lot of his lyrics, given how much he mentions his personal life in his music. Secondly, I was planning on finishing writing a section about his career and music, which would be at least twice the size of the personal life section, but I found that I had little time to work on it, so I uploaded the finished personal life section in the meantime. I think we should focus more on expanding the info on his career and music, rather that reducing the section on his personal life. In addition the account on his life is pretty complete, so it's not likely to grow much larger. --Aramգուտանգ 17:57, 26 December 2005 (UTC)
I'm not completely sure a lot of that new info isn't just copied and pasted from elsewhere. It might be violating copyrights...--Josh 22:13, 3 January 2006 (UTC)
I can guarantee that I wrote all of the new info myself, I'm a longtime contributor. --Aramգուտանգ 00:14, 12 January 2006 (UTC)

I agree with Aramgutang. What he said was true, and well said. Dan 04:51, 25 February 2006 (UTC)

So how many records has he sold? When I saw this article, it said over 65 millions, then it was changed to 50 millions and now to 70. Which number is correct?--It 13:28, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

Eminem has sold around 77 million as i will prove now. if you click this link [[1]] it will say eminem has sold 70 million records but if u look at bottom of the article it will say 11th may 2005. since may 2005 eminem has since released another album called curtain call in november/december 2005 which has sold as of november around 7 million copies worldwide so this brings a total tally of around 77 million albums worldwide!!

Question on Birthdate

Revolutionary here. Wasn't Eminem born in 1972?

yes he was

Birthplace again :)

St. Joseph or Kansas City? Currently we have K.C. in birthplace and St. Joseph in origin. Brandmeister 17:36, 22 January 2006 (UTC)

  • Hey Maybe He was Born in DETROIT Did that ever hit Your head.
  • It's Saint Joseph by everything I've ever heard. Two hypotheses: 1) he was born in a KC hospital (unlikely), 2) he was claimed by KC, being born on the west side of the state, he belongs to KC. Those little towns and cities like Saint Joseph don't actually exist, don'tcha know? VH1 and All Music Guide both say St. Joe. IMDB says KC, but those bios are written by non-pros, and we all know how unreliable they are <crazed laughter of a ancient Wikipedian>.
  • By the way, I seem to remember that Eminem claims KC. Nicer cachet than a town of 80,000. Catbar (Brian Rock) 02:58, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

His birth date at the top of the screen is different to the one at the side. His biography says the 17th. I'll change them both to that.

Royce Da 5'9" and Shady Records

Why did Eminem refuse to sign Royce Da 5'9" to Shady Records. They were friends apparantly and on Royce Da 5'9" page all it says is Eminem was working on 8 mile. Can anyone explain? 216.58.18.211 17:42, 2 February 2006 (UTC)

Eminem thought Royce was getting fat. Actually, I just sort of assume that he was super-preoccupied with 8 Mile.. and he knew 50 Cent was going to be huge and had to grab him. Just a guess. . . it's likely that no one knows.

I saw this show about Beefs on TV, and apparently Royce said "F**k Anger Management" in one of his demos. Eminem took it as a diss since his tour was also called Anger Management, and then the whole fight started.

Inappropriate Language

Someone has removed the article and replaced it with an inappropriate statement

--Major Problem-- The entire article was deleted. can someone revert it to the saved version?

You could. Why do we have to do it for you? Click the history button, find a good version, click edit, then save it again to revert the page. I'll do it this time, but for future reference, that's how. -Kasreyn 08:27, 9 February 2006 (UTC)

We As Americans

Okay, the word "dead" isn't censored both times. The song still says "dead presidents." It just doesn't say "president dead." So the meaning of "dead presidents" is NOT changed. I'm editing it out because it is wrong. Stop reverting it back.--Josh 02:53, 17 February 2006 (UTC)

If you hadn't wanted me to continue reverting it, maybe you should have given a REASON why you were deleting it, in your edit summary. Revolutionary ;-)

The second time I removed it I put "Wrong dead." in the summary. But I suppose that is a confusing way to word it, heh.--Josh 06:41, 17 February 2006 (UTC)

Of course, maybe you should have made the necessary changes- since it "DOES" change the meaning, just not the way I would have imagined, as I certainly have never listened to any censored version of an Eminem song. Obviously, if it goes from "I'd rather see the president dead," to "I'd rather see the president," that's a bit strange. Of course, you could say one could easily make the inference (since the line was obviously leading up to that), but then there's the argument about why the hell it was edited out in the first place. Who wouldn't want to see our president dead? :) Dan 03:37, 17 February 2006 (UTC)

Could someone explain me this line: "The skit was also used in Immortal Technique's song "Bin Laden", stated near the end. Immortal Technique also attacks the president on the song". Who's "Immortal Technique"? What kind of skit? Another act of vandalism?--It 22:40, 29 October 2006 (UTC)

POV issues

A minor POV issue re this passage: "the disturbingly detailed description of spousal abuse."

"disturbingly" is problematic here per WP:NPOV and WP:OR – it's biased towards an interpretation of the lyrics. I've replaced the phrase with "graphic", which describes the lyrical content without ascribing an interpretation. --Muchness 06:24, 17 February 2006 (UTC)

Good thinking. While it was certainly disturbing, you're definitely right.. that was POVish :) Dan 04:21, 23 February 2006 (UTC)

Emanem?

This disambiguation doesn't belong at the top of the page. It takes away from the article. It's almost like it's spam. The 2 people out of a billion who may be looking for "Emanem" records or whatever it is most likely are going to know how to spell it. If it had the same spelling as Eminem I can see the point, but it doesnt. I'm removing it.--Bigplankton 20:26, 17 February 2006 (UTC)

Awards duplication

I would suggest combining the two awards sections into one, for space reasons. Nominations could be easily differentiated. Or moving it to separate article "Eminem's Awards and Nominations". Design 01:56, 24 February 2006 (UTC)

I don't think any of his awards should be on his page... it's getting to be too much of a pain, and takes up too much space. Plus, who really cares? I agree, they should be merged on the separate page. Dan 03:55, 3 July 2006 (UTC)

Gay Icon Category

I've made a few attempts to add the "gay icon" category to this article, and each was removed and called either "vandalism" or "rumor." The reason I propose adding the category to the article is NOT because I'm trying to imply that he's gay, but because he IS a gay icon. Because of his controversial history with the gay community, every gay person in America knows who Eminem is. Also, the "gay icon" category isn't exclusive to public figures who ARE gay. It's for anyone who has had any kind of notoriety with gay audiences. Again, his controversial history with anti-gay lyrics (and performing with Elton John) makes it an appropriate mark for him to also be featured in. The preceding unsigned comment was added by 152.163.100.136 (talk • contribs) 18:50, 24 February 2006.

Would it be too much trouble to ask you to get an account so we know what to call you? Or at least to sign your comments? -Kasreyn 08:23, 24 February 2006 (UTC)

It doesn't matter. Most people will take this as meaning he's gay. Either way, it's foolish.. he's not an "icon," since he's generally disliked by gays. Plus... there are definitely gays in america who don't know of him.

P.S., your idea is stupid :D Dan 21:17, 24 February 2006 (UTC)

I personally think this is a stupid idea, because I mean, when I first saw the topic, I thought Eminem was being referred to as a gay person, so there's no reason to complain at all if you tried to put on that article and it got deleted.Eminemfanatic

So gays don't like him and that makes him a gay icon? Look up icon first. 89.213.51.202 18:06, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

Guerrilla News Network

I dont want to mess up the article, so could somone add Guerrilla News Network somewhere? Thanks. --Striver 14:51, 26 February 2006 (UTC)

Gangester group leader

But I just wanna mess up this

If your intention is to vandalize this article, you might as well not bother. Harmful changes will be reverted very swiftly and eventually you'll wind up blocked. Why not help us out as a constructive editor instead? -Kasreyn 10:04, 27 February 2006 (UTC)

I think "Gangester group leader" says it all ("nonesense," too).. this person is so clueless, he or she is incapable of correctly spelling even the most simplistic of words- nor can can he or she come up with a sentence that makes logical sense; "he's not worth killing," but you promise you will kill him? Ok. The funny thing is that if you tried he- or one of his group (or, hey, a bodyguard) would undoubtedly light you up- kind of like when Young Buck shanked a guy for punching Dr. Dre in the face. Dan 20:14, 27 February 2006 (UTC)

All right then. I'm sure everyone's terrified of you. Oh, wait. You're a thirteen-year-old kid. Dan 19:42, 13 April 2006 (UTC)

What Happened?

The history article was fine and someone bolded any name of anything mentioned. Along with that there are a multiple amount of links directly in the article. This needs some clean up. A notes section needs to be created and all the links dumped in there if they so important. Tutmosis 20:54, 11 March 2006 (UTC)

Yeah... I reverted the whole thing out of disgust. The person who was bolding every other damn word clearly didn't know what he or she was doing. Dan 02:31, 12 March 2006 (UTC)

Please stop removing Resource links

To whoever that is doing this, please stop it. Someone is removing links to well known and usefull Eminem resource links and this is my plea for that individual to stop. The links have been there for months are of definite use to many, so please do not continue to remove the links.

Thank you

If you mean "fansite" and picture links, this isn't for those kind of links. Dan 23:29, 25 March 2006 (UTC)

But the pictures are a resource for many visitors and the content on the fansite ( such as lyrics, single information, wallpapers etc ) would be useful to many of the visitors and is certainly a resource. A site labelled fansite does not mean it should be looked upon as an amatuer groupie fest, more as a more complete resource containing content which does not appear on Wiki.--86.139.112.206 10:55, 26 March 2006 (UTC)

Post-Encore Eminem

RVing the production section, alright, but what's wrong with the additions about Encore? i can find other reviews to link to if you want. in the articles on Jay-Z and Nas, they mention that they were accused of "selling out" at certain points in their career. in this article, it mentions that MMLP was controversial. so i guess i don't see what's wrong with pointing out that aside from being tame by Slim Shady standards, many fans also consider Encore a blemish in his discography. if we're talking about his legacy, we can both mention the fact that SSLP and MMLP are critically-acclaimed and that Encore and his new songs on Curtain Call have received widespread criticism. Dr. Trey 23:55, 25 March 2006 (UTC)

1996-2005?

Hey i changed this line from 1996-2005 to 1996-Present is this right???

Not sure. It's probably safer, though if, at least for a while, Curtain Call was his last album, and he isn't working with other rappers (not producing, but on their tracks), then no... I don't think so. It's reasonable for now, though, I think. Dan 22:49, 30 March 2006 (UTC)

Please stop adding stupid things...

Adding things like "The "E" is also backwards on his album ENCORE" is pretty pointless. Obviously, "Eminem loves Lara" or whatever is stupid vandalism, but things like "Straight From The Lab EP," while perhaps are worth mention, shouldn't be put on his list of albums. Also, no need to make things unnecessarily verbose... Dan 15:48, 7 April 2006 (UTC)

EMINEM → Eminem – All official artist sources (e.g., the artist's own website bio) and all notable third party sources (e.g., MTV, VIBE, Rolling Stone) capitalize his name Eminem. The all caps spelling is stylized typography mostly limited to promo artwork and album covers. -- Muchness 05:21, 7 April 2006 (UTC)

Guerra/Guerrera?

I'm trying to get the name of the man that kissed Eminem's wife right. However, I find both spellings. Articles on the BBC say Guerra. Links to the lyrics in Eminem's song have him calling him Guerrera. Does anyone have any insight or know where maybe there's a court filing that might have his name for certain?

DarkMagess 19:28, 17 April 2006 (UTC)

It's Guerrera. Listen to the song, or just look at the lyrics from the booklet in The Eminem Show CD. Dan 06:37, 22 April 2006 (UTC)

Yes it's Guerrera. If you listen to Sing for the moment, he actually says, "..you're full of shit too Guerrera, that was a fist that hit you!" Eminemfanatic

Reverted change by Rohan Hiray

I will assume good faith here and hope that the change to the bit about sales compared to Tupac Shakur was well-intentioned. However, the comment in the text encouraging editors to discuss changes to the line was ignored, so I'm reverting to "He is the second-highest selling rapper of all time, behind Tupac Shakur". Rohan, if your change was based on actual sales figures which you can source, by all means reply here. Cheers, Kasreyn 19:48, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

Eminem has sold around 77 million as i will prove now. if you click this link [[2]] it will say eminem has sold 70 million records but if u look at bottom of the article it will say 11th may 2005. since may 2005 eminem has since released another album called curtain call in november/december 2005 which has sold as of november around 7 million copies worldwide so this brings a total tally of around 77 million albums worldwide!! And also with eminem having a brand new album on the way in dec 2006 he will be clear of 2 pac. dont get me wrong i belivev 2 pac is brilliant but i mean in reality eminem has now sold more records and eminems popularity is far more higher.

Trailer Park in intro

I was too hasty in calling this bias, so I've replaced what I removed. But for one thing, this requires a source. For another, I really don't think we need so much detail in the article intro.

In general, the intro is too long. A lot of the material in it should be moved to the main body of the article. The intro of an article should serve as a quick summary of the most important points to be covered. Kasreyn 06:52, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

I removed it in my clean-up attempt. It didn't flow well, it doesn't need to be specified, and Trailer Park links to an album.--Josh 09:24, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

Origin

Eminem has NEVER lived in Detroit- he lived in WARREN, MICHIGAN (which is like saying someone who grew in Beverly Hills grew up in South Central LA). Eminem is NOT from DETROIT he is from WARREN one of the safest cities in MICHIGAN! I have changed this in the past, only to have it changed back to St. Joseph. Any thoughts? --Zimbabweed 08:43, 29 May 2006 (UTC) If I did a bio of George Washington and said he fought in the Revolutionary War in CALIFORNIA instead of the EAST COAST 13 colonies -I would be laughed off the internet-how can this bio state Eminem grew up in DETROIT-when he never lived there 1 day-just like Washington never even lived or visited California?

Don't know. Origin seems like it would be a stupendously dumb way to say "birthplace," and more reasonable for what you're suggesting. Dan 19:11, 2 June 2006 (UTC)
I think he lived in Detroit as a young adult, although I'm not 100% sure about that. By the way, while Warren is safer than Detroit, it's not exactly another Beverly Hills. The area where Em grew up in is lower-middle-class, at best. 68.41.174.194 03:11, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

Is eminem record sales are right?

The only reason im putting this is because marshall mathers lp would have sold 19 mill it would become the best selling rap album of all time but it not since that title goes to biggie smalls who sold 18 mill. and eminem records sell for the mm lp should be 16 mill and thats his best salling album next is eminem show so the album sales is incorrect please change it.i love eminem he is so fucking sexy <--Vandalism!!We dont need to know Eminemfanatic

2 pacs , 7 day theory is the best selling rap album ever pal. check it out.

I don't know if The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory is the best selling album, because no accurate numbers for his other albums have been released in years. Even though that album sold 28 million worldwide, those numbers are 6 years outdated, and with magazines giving tribute to Tupac every year and naming that album as one of the best of all-time, sales must have increased by now License2Kill 19:31, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

and they never got respect in detroit, neither did esham after he signed to them

Royce

It says he has lot's of ememies, including Royce Da 5'9". Is that cuz of this::

Shady Records In 2002, Royce would call Eminem and ask to be signed to Shady Records. Busy with his movie 8 Mile at the time, Eminem refused, but about a week later signed 50 Cent. Royce took this in stride, and even agreed to do the Anger Management Tour with his crew D-Elite. While on tour, D12 took offense to a line Royce had written: "Fuck Anger Management, I need someone to manage my anger."

The above was taken from the royce article on this site.

Source Controversy?

The article as it stands appears to say nothing regarding the Source magazine release of a putatively racist snippet from one of Eminem's early tapes. This was a rather major and protracted legal event in Eminem's life; perhaps it merits addition? Chubbles1212 06:24, 23 September 2006 (UTC)

The Track "Bin Laden" by Immortal Technique

I do believe Eminem was only SAMPLED for this track, he didn't Rap on it...--Tainted Drifter 18:36, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

I also agree. Eminem was sampled. His voice was taken from "Patiently Waiting" and "We as Americans". Therefore he didn't really say anything about September 11, and that should be taken off controversey. Immortal Technique is the one who actually did, Eminem shouldn't be getting credit for him. The only reason I don't mind too much is that it's giving Immortal Technique publicity, and he is one of the best rappers out there who isn't very well known.

Eminem is dead.

Can anyone provide sources for these or are they vandalism? Pogo 20:56, 13 October 2006 (UTC)

Angelic fixed it. Along with a lot of other vandalism. Great job man. Pogo 17:13, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

Eh... What about this: "In the future, Mathers Plans to sign new artist Pedro-san Murray to his label". I've found it in the "Early Life" section. It's obviously doesn't belong there. And who the hell is Pedro-san Murray?! Vandalism!!

Vandalism again

I've found that most of the recent vandalisms were repeated, the Early life part including relation to Barney the Purple Dinosaur. What the hell guys?....That was funny. XD I mean, you have to appreciate the originality. To have come up with stuff like that... Man, I mean, his uncle being Barney, replacing song names like 'You and me in my closet' and one of his quotes with, 'My pee-pee hurts'... How can you not find that funny? I had a hard time trying to put it back from laughing so hard, and ultimately didn't do it. Not Jimmy Iiovine, JIMMY HENDRIX!! (cracks up laughing)

What happened to the Trivia Page?

Article too messy

Could someone with a better understanding of Eminem please clean up this article? There are 15 main headings and it could be brought down to 8 I think. For example, shouldnt "Eminem in D12" and "Retirement" be placed under "success"? (which, in turn, could be renamed as "musical career" or similar?) --Louis Shum 2 10:35, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

There's been a few changes recently to numbers of albums sold and so on. Someone needs to go to first sources and check - and cite - these numbers. Currently I don't trust any of the info on this page... raining girl 22:52, 23 November 2006 (UTC)

Grammatical Error

"To date, Eminem has sold around 50 million albums in the U.S. and if you was to include single sales to it there would be a total of over 90 million records worldwide. He also has high record sales with his group D12. His known to have had 7 UK #1 hits and #5 UK #1 albums. Every Eminem single that has been released in the UK has entered in the top ten."

Eminem is only his stage name

I feel "Eminem" should redirect to his real name, which I BELIEVE (don't quote me on this) is Marshall Mathers. Perhaps it should say "best known under the name of Eminem" or something. It seems strange to put his stage name as the top entry.

Usually on Wikipedia the stage name is used License2Kill 04:01, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

Exactly, they never talk about Curtis Jackson(50 Cent) or Christopher Wallace(The Notorious BIG) do they? They just use the stage names to make it easier for people to understand who's being talked about.Eminemfanatic

Pretty much the only exception is Tupac Shakur. It should probably redirect to 2Pac, but he apparently deserves special treatment for some reason. -.- Josh 16:30, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

No it is because he is also an actor and has releases albums under the other names then 2Pac. License2Kill 02:11, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

Overzealous fans

This article has a major problem with overzealous and overly bias fans editing it. So be sure to be on the look out License2Kill 04:32, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

Pssh, dude please!! Eminemfanatic

Your username says it all License2Kill 20:14, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

Nah I dnt think that an Eminem hater wud make a site bout him innit? U dnt see me makin a page bout Paris Hitler. I mean, Hilton.

Eminem's Total Worldwide Album Sales Incorrect

Eminem's sold over 70 million worldwide [3] and that almost a year and a half ago, so it's probably more. The current article says he's sold 50 million. Zeus7 19:38, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

Yeh your right but i bet wikipedia will still change it for sum reason

Marilyn Manson?

I'm pretty sure Eminem was referring to serial killer Charlie Manson in "My Name Is." We should have the trivia paragraph about Marilyn removed.

No, Eminem really was referring to Marilyn Manson. Marilyn Manson was even in the video for this song, Damn!!

1st. Marilyn Manson was in the "Way I am" video. 2nd. Manson is not mentioned in "my Name Is". 3rd. In "The way I Am" he says Marilyn not Manson. 4th. He says Manson in "I'm Back" referring to Charles Manson.

Discography

Who keeps editing the discography like that? It's extremely sloppy and confusing. The other way was better and I've tried putting it back but someone keeps putting the other one.

That's Wikipedia format for discography's. This article will never be featured if it stay's like that. Also do not add sales numbers without a source. License2Kill 18:27, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

Yes, but why 4 seperate paragraphs outside the Discography section that still have everything to do with the discography? That definately isn't right. Not to mention Eminem's Wiki requires cleanup. Adding a bunch more articles isn't helping. Also, the 8 Mile soundtrack isn't listed and you also put D12's albums twice. The actual discography section is fine, but the one on the main page is messed up.

Okay, then it is subject to clean up. Especially since people keep adding sales numbers without providing sources and the overzealous Eminem fans are inflating sales numbers, which is really lame License2Kill 01:13, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
