Birthdate[edit]

I came to this article and saw a perfectly good potential reference sitting in the external links section, so I decided to use it to source something in the article (which previously had no references whatsoever). Two people are now opposing me on this, and I have no idea why. Number 57 says "we don't need references for everything", but we do; besides, in this case, we have a potential reference sitting right there in the external links section...why not use it? Why all this resistance to adding a cite for Sneh's birthdate? Everyking (talk) 18:39, 1 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Look, someone needs to either find a different reference for his birthdate (the one that just gives the year isn't adequate) or we need to restore the one I used. I looked for a different reference but could not find one. Besides, it seems to me that the official Knesset website is about as solid a reference as there can be. It's not a matter of unique importance, but I was starting the process of citing the article with the very first fact in it. Since then, I've noticed at least one other thing (the date he left his Knesset seat) that we could cite to that source. Removing references is something you are simply not supposed to do on Wikipedia, unless the source in question is unreliable, which is obviously not the case here. Should this be the only article on Wikipedia that is exempt from referencing requirements? Everyking (talk) 04:21, 2 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There is, however, a source for it in the subsequent section. That's a long, well-developed article, very different from this one. Are you arguing that birthdates don't need to be cited at all? Everyking (talk) 05:00, 2 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
