Origin of energy maximum wrong[edit]
Invoking steric interactions to explain strain energy in eclipsed conformation is often used in undergrad texts but is an incorrect explanation. To verify, pick an Advanced Organic Chemistry textbook of your choice (e.g. Jerry March).
