Geography[edit]

Isn't Pearman's Copse in the parish of Shinfield, not Earley? https://wokingham.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=648b47160bda4692bd970f9846c33669 Are not the southern and eastern boundaries along the M4 and then following the River Loddon? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Alxbear (talkcontribs) 15:53, 6 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Officially has all the trappings of a town, in politics but nothing else[edit]

Please note that economically, logistically, historically, geographically and scientifically the place is a suburb (nothing more) and certainly not a town. If you must defer to officianados an express mention that conflicts with its actual status as a suburb with its own second-tier community council which not all parts of the Borough (Unitary Authority) have.- Adam37 Talk 23:12, 16 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I had a quick read of the England and Wales section of the 'Town' article and what seems clear to me is that 'town' has multiple meanings. While Earley is as you say a suburb (and this is emphasised in the opening description), it is still a town (and not just 'officially' a town), by virtue of having a town council. You might not like the description of 'town' based only upon that criteria but it's in wide use so in my opinion should be left as it is. Dubmill (talk) 11:42, 17 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Untitled[edit]

This entry lacks key information about the Town namely Sol Joel, the race course, Sol Joel's house, the power station, University (part of which lies in Earley) and the Thames Valley Business Park. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Andrew.long@tiscali.co.uk (talkcontribs) 00:07, 12 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I had added quite a bit more info following some research and a trip to St Peters church--Quadrant2 (talk) 19:59, 25 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Geography[edit]

This section needs some correction and tidying:

  1. the stuff about wildlife at Maiden Erlegh lake and the woodlands does not belong here - if it's important maybe it should have a separate section called Wildlife or similar
  2. The eastern boundary N of the A329 is not Lower Earley Way - I'd need to check what the boundary road is called, though.
  3. It's misleading to suggest Sindlesham is S of Earley - it's more E than S, and anyway is included in Winnersh, so the mention of Sindlesham should be removed. I think most of the Southern boundary is with Arborfield but I would need to check.

I'll try to check this out properly and amend the article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Newburyjohn (talkcontribs) 16:10, 17 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I have had a go at correcting where the boundaries run, and which civil parishes surround Earley civil parish. The interactive maps on the Wokingham Borough Council website show civil parishes. Unfortunately, the boundary meanders such a lot, it is difficult to describe concisely where it runs!Ntmr (talk) 18:08, 4 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sol Joel Park[edit]

Is it correct to say that the original pavilion is still in use? According to the article on Sol Joel Park it was rebuilt in 2012. (In any event, is there any point in going into detail on Sol Joel Park in this article when it has its own entry?)Ntmr (talk) 09:48, 29 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Pronunciation[edit]

Like "early" or like "ear-lee"? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.73.168.99 (talk) 09:39, 2 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I have only ever heard the name pronounced like 'early', but I am a newcomer, not a native. Has anyone heard anything different? The alternative spelling 'Erleigh' (as in 'Maiden Erleigh') would suggest that 'early' is the usual pronunciation.Ntmr (talk) 18:44, 2 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It appears your spelling for 'Maiden Erlegh' is incorrect. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.64.3.229 (talk) 23:05, 30 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
