Okay...I just started working on a posting about the chemistry of oil paint which includes a brief (about 3/4 page) discussion of drying oils. Now I'm worried that I should have put this information on the "Drying Oil" page instead. Or should I just provide a link from "Drying Oil" to my article in progress? BTW as of today the article I'm working on isn't picked up by the search engine yet...it should be up in a few days. The title is "Chemistry of Oil Paint" (very imaginative!)Medora 13:54, 5 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi - I "beefed up" the drying oil article with the info from your article. Steve 14:19, 5 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Drying oils[edit]

Temperatures and drying rates[edit]

Under what conditions can/do other oils polymerize? For example, will some other type of oil dry, but only when baked at 200F, for example? Is there any on the rate of reaction? This would be particularly helpful in modifying/perfecting painting and cooking techniques, and so far I have not been able to find any good spec sheets online. Can anyone help?

You might check Linseed oil for some info since it seems to be the main drying oil. In general, Wikipedia is not in the advice or how-to-do-it business, per our directive WP:NOTMANUAL.--Smokefoot (talk) 02:07, 10 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
