Copyvio[edit]

There have been problems with edits by anonymous logins posting information copied in its entirety from www.jordanseriesdrogue.com/D_3.htm and similar pages into the "Series drogue lines" section. This information is usually not edited much or at all and has self-serving interests. Content from this site should not be considered a NPOV. --Dj245 20:32, 14 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Merge?[edit]

I am not clear what the difference is between a drogue (this article) and a sea anchor. They seem to be much the same sort of construction, used for the same purposes in similar circumstances, and the two articles even use an identical image. If there is a difference, we need it explained more clearly; if not, we need to merge the articles. Richard New Forest (talk) 18:11, 3 January 2011

Yes I agree completely! Springnuts (talk) 23:29, 2 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The differences are subtle, and as much or more in technique, the intent or use, as in the objects themselves. Deploying a drogue is (at least in my mind) an technique to slow the passage of the boat through the water, while deploying a sea anchor is (contrariwise) a technique to stop the passage of the boat through the water. You might want to stop the boat if you don't want to approach a near shore that you're being driven onto, for example, but might want to only slow the boat if there was ample sea room and travel would be in a somewhat desirable direction. What you deploy, depending on the sea, wind, boat, ... might well be the same thing, but it would have different effects depending on those other things. That help? I think both articles need help, but I'm not sure that merging is the right approach. htom (talk) 02:23, 3 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
@Springnuts Wrong article. Had to edit out. ~crazy (talk) 11:15, 10 March 2024 (UTC) ~crazy (talk) 07:12, 10 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

My understanding is that a sea anchor is deployed from the bow of the boat (where normal anchors are usually deployed), and that a drogue is from the stern. The difference in intent is also there, in that the sea anchor is intended to stop the boat (again like a regular anchor) or as near as can in just water, and a drogue is to slow the boat to improve boat control and safety. I just made some edits that reinforce this distinction.
Well I think not, and in any case the merge would be useful Springnuts (talk) 15:29, 30 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Another vote for a merge. Consider that Drogue only has synonyms in one other language while Sea anchor has nine. Jolta (talk) 23:22, 26 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Main Article Image[edit]

I think it would be wise to replace the main image to help clearly identify what an actual drogue looks like (preferable an actual photograph).

A black and white hand drawing of subpar quality is ineffective and unusual to see on the Wiki platform. Particularly for an articles main visual representation/image. Given I didn't know what a drogue was before reading this article, I didn't think it was proper for me to edit the image myself. Herenow44 (talk) 04:41, 9 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
