Initial version of this article is primarily made of public domain data, as a work of the US government, downloaded from here. The data only covers public schools, so people should feel free to add private schools, following the example given in the table. Niteowlneils 04:23, 15 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Looks like similar private school data is available from another page of the same site, just not in near as convenient form to create a table from[1]. Niteowlneils 05:07, 15 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Public v. private schools in DC[edit]

I deleted "Most wealthy or middle-class families in Washington, D.C. place their children in private schools instead of DCPS schools largely due to low performance and facility problems."

The footnote does not support this statement.


RESPONSE

I have not yet edited this article, but it's in grave need of it. DCPS is a system well known for it's abysmal bureaucracy, exceptionally poor performance, white flight, and all-around failure (though some recent trends indicate improvement). This article was clearly not written by anyone with experience dealing with the system. Furthermore, in the above post, the footnote referred to is the DCPS website, not precisely a great source of balanced information, or any information at all given the websites quality (a picture of a former science teacher of mine is on it's front page, 5 years after he quit and moved to Albany, an easy indicator of upkeep in the system.) Point being, this article is in grave need of editing to include a balanced discussion of it's history, failures, successes, and future.

DCPS vs. DCPCSB

Both DCPS and DCPCSB have chartering authority. The DCPS Charter Schools are the ones currently undergoing investigation for corruptiom, NOT the ones overseen by the DCPCSB.

Woodson Senior High[edit]

For over a year, DCPS has NOT been analogous to the State Education Agency (SEA) as well as a Local Education Agency (LEA). The DC Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) is the SEA; it was set up as an independent agency in mid 2007. ____

DCPS vs DCPCS[edit]

The list of DCPS schools is both inaccurate and outdated. DC Public Charter Schools should not be included in this list, as they are a separate entity, under a separate governance. The enrollment data and grade levels for the DCPS schools listed is grossly outdated. Several have closed or merged, or added grade levels to become "education campuses" rather than elementary schools. The enrollment numbers are also incorrect: I teach at one school, and our enrollment is at least 70 students less than what is listed here.

DCPS Chancellors[edit]

Current (Acting) Chancellor is Lewis D. Ferebee, NOT Amanda Alexander. Additionally, Superintendents/Chancellors list is a bit messy, so a table may be more suitable. 208.58.209.129 (talk) 01:46, 25 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
