Edits on 22nd September, 2013[edit]

'... transforming Dibrugarh into a mini city like Guwahati and Jorhat' was replaced with '...transforming Dibrugarh into a vibrant city like Guwahati.' Dibrugarh as a city can be compared with Guwahati only as a city. There is no justification of showing Jorhat as an example before Dibrugarh as city. Dibrugarh Municipality was established way back in 1873, whereas, Jorhat Municipality was established in 1909. The present municipal area of Dibrugah is 15.5 sq. kilometres with 22 wards, whereas that of Jorhat is widened to 9.20 sq. kilometres with 19 wards. [1] [2] Hence, the information - 'Jorhat ... second largest in Assam marking second metropolitan.' carried by the official website of Jorhat Municipal Board is false and misleading. Moreover, the term 'mini city' is a vague term. Officially the letters A, B,and C are used to categorize a city. The word 'vibrant' does not qualify a city regarding its size etc. but only signifies a place regarding its business and other activities and hence can safely and quite justifiably be used in case of Dibrugarh. Undit last reverts by User:shovon76[edit]

It was found that the area and population data from a reliable source was reverted to the earlier wrong data in the Infobox and hence the revert to line 39 has been undone. Moreover, there seems to be no need from wikipedia policies point of view to exactly reproduce a line from any reliable third party source in a wikipedia article. Hence the line ' Dibrugarh is the 2nd nerve center of industry, communication and healthcare in the state of Assam after Guwahati' which has been added with a reference from a reliable source is also not a reproduction. Moreover, the rerference added do contain information that do vindicate the validity of the information in the line. However, details of industry, research and higher educational facilities in medical sciences as well as healthcare facilities and also the rail, road, air transport/communication facilities besides govt. and other media (mass communication) faclities that exist in and around Dibrugarh, which do make Dibrugarh a 'nerve centre in the state of Assam after Guwahati' can be provided separately with reference to a number of reliable third party sources if required. The added line describes the city of Dibrugarh briefly and correctly and also is a true introduction/representation of the city at the same time. This is how, information in the lead section of an article should be presented as per wikipedia norms. Nborkakoty (talk) 15:08, 5 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Nborkakoty, please refer to WP:RS. Dibrugarh municipality's website is a self-published source for this article. The other sources mentioned by you fail wikipedia's reliable sources criteria. Acquaint yourself with all the policies of Wiki before going on a reversion spree. Shovon (talk) 15:32, 5 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The source is a municipal council, that is perfectly reliable for gods sake. Darkness Shines (talk) 16:41, 5 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Darkness Shines, would you care to explain where is the mention of 2nd in Assam after Guwahati in that source of yours? Shovon (talk) 08:05, 6 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Reply to above[edit]

The source says '...the nerve center of all political, administrative, cultural and commercial activities of the Upper Assam region.' This peice of information clearly means Dibrugarh is 2nd to none in Upper Assam so far as political, administrative, cultural and commercial activities are concerned and in a broader prespective 2nd only to Guwahati in the state of Assam. However, if Dibrugarh is not, then we will be gald to learn if there is any other city in the state of Assam apart from Guwahati and outside Upper Assam, which can be termed as a nerve centre of industry, communication etc. in the true sense of the term. Moreover, a reliable source says, 'Dibrugarh is the second largest city of Assam. ...north-eastern region and its hub Dibrugarh.'[3]. The reliability of this source is further vindicated by another reliable source [4]. It is true, because, it has not mentioned 'second populous' but mentioned 'second largest' and 'hub' correctly qualifying the city of Dibrugarh. Nborkakoty (talk) 11:13, 6 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Nborkakoty, would you care to explain your understanding of the political entity called Assam? Assam does not consist of only upper Assam FYKI. A reliable source would be the census data from GoI, which clearly shows Dibrugarh to be neither the 2nd largest nor the 2nd most populated. And please, do try and understand what constitute reliable sources. Shovon (talk) 13:15, 6 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Btw, The Hindu link does not even mention Dibrugarh. Shovon (talk) 13:17, 6 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Center For Management Studies came under Dibrugarh University as study center. No need to specify it separately. Deepjyoti05 (talk) 16:34, 27 January 2014 (UTC)Deepjyoti05[reply]
