Visionary

Dhirubhai Ambani was a fine visionary, and at the same time India's most controversial tycoon. Indian public opinion is deeply divided: To many he is a hero, to as many others a crook. The corporate cash of the incredible empire he built still makes sure that hagiography abounds and that criticism is suppressed. That prevents an open discussion of his merits and shortcomings. Indian politicians and bureaucrats admit in private that he had everyone who counted in his pockets. But at the time, India's economy was burdened with socialistic controls, state intervention was rampant, and entrepreneurial creativity was systematically stifled. To beat the system, everyone had to exploit the greed of the people in power. Ambani did it much more effectively than anybody else. The entrepreneur in him would not be stifled. There is an excellent book on his life called "The Polyester Prince" by Hamish McDonald. It sheds light on all aspects, the bright, the gray and the dark. Unfortunately, it is not for sale in India... from oliver in delhi

a new version of the book titled Ambani and Sons is now available, and so far has not been banned. PratikMallya Talk! 07:58, 4 March 2011 (UTC)

Rivanckinniveols - Meaning?

While I was reading the article, I came across a new word rivanckinniveols (Fourth sentence in 'The Indian Express Articles' enlisted under 'Criticism' in the article). I Googled out for its meaning but the word could only be found in the pages that contained text copied/referenced from Wikipedia. Can anybody elucidate the meaning of rivanckinniveols? There are no criticisms anymore. In a a supposedly free and democratic country, you cannot criticise the rich and connected. Scorpio.pradeep (talk) 02:22, 13 December 2018 (UTC)

  • i agree! i have been told that he I have been told that he murdered people too, apart from other illegal things like giving lots of money to politicians and stuff. The preceding unsigned comment was added by 204.111.131.20 (talk • contribs) . on 10th February 2006
  • I do not agree with above as the logic of human history dictates that no long term success story has been built this way: you should come out with facts and not reliance on hearsay is as good as a POV. --Bhadani 15:32, 10 February 2006 (UTC)
One thing I would like to point here is that no where it has been found that he used to bribe politicians. As a business house Reliance is still one of the biggest fund contributributors to Political Parties. They do not do it behind the viel, everything is on papers. One interesting fact is that he has always been critisized as a manipulator. Starting from the colums of S.Gurumurthy to recent non-biased colomists everyone has noted that the business house manipulates strigent laws to meet their business requriements. They have always used the loophole and they have never violated the established laws.
Even the allegations on a top Reliance Executive that he had hatched a plot to eliminate Nusli Wadia of the Bombay Dyeing also were baseless.. None of the judicial findings were able to support that claim.
So it would be interesting if his style of management is highligted, which is infact unique.. He was a noble person and perhaps the only businessman whose funeral was attended by thousands of common people. --IndianCow Talk 22:06, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

Picture of Sri Dirubhai

hey, there is a picture of him on Reliance Industries website, [1] can we upload it to his infobox? Thanx Tri400 15:40, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

visionary?

Well he didnt do anything new, he did see a lot of things around him when abroad and tried to apply it to India. There is still a long way, even today for the organization to go when it comes to innovation. Let us put it this way, if there were no laws and rules on import/exports there would be no one to bribe and everyone could import and export things. Given that scenario, would reliance succeed? There is a difference in being able to work the system in your favor and making the system choose you by defacto.

Fair use rationale for Image:Stamp-Dhirubhai-Ambani.jpg

Image:Stamp-Dhirubhai-Ambani.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Image copyright problem with Image:RNG.jpg

The image Image:RNG.jpg is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
  • That this article is linked to from the image description page.

This is an automated notice by FairuseBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. --03:02, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

Complete Re-write?

Besides maybe the introduction, this article is a joke. It reads as if written by someone who idolizes Ambani. Entries should be written in a factual, biographical manner, not like a fanzine. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.198.0.201 (talk) 21:40, 3 March 2011 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pratik.mallya (talkcontribs)

It sure is. I suspect is has been blatantly copied from some webpage. In particular, the anecdotes peppered throughout the article may not be verifiable PratikMallya Talk! 08:03, 4 March 2011 (UTC)

It looks like this whole article is someone's opinion on Dhirubhai Ambani - written like a story. Can't read this article - it is rubbish.

Well it is an advertisement. No one dated criticise the rich and connected in India. Reliance threatens journalists with billion dollar lawsuits for "defamation", an archaic law still persisting in a supposedly free and democratic country. No one questions the share market practices of businesses in India and how they end up with billions of dollars of cash. Scorpio.pradeep (talk) 02:27, 13 December 2018 (UTC)

File:Dhirubhai ambani.jpg Nominated for speedy Deletion

An image used in this article, File:Dhirubhai ambani.jpg, has been nominated for speedy deletion at Wikimedia Commons for the following reason: Copyright violations
What should I do?

Don't panic; deletions can take a little longer at Commons than they do on Wikipedia. This gives you an opportunity to contest the deletion (although please review Commons guidelines before doing so). The best way to contest this form of deletion is by posting on the image talk page.

  • If the image is non-free then you may need to upload it to Wikipedia (Commons does not allow fair use)
  • If the image isn't freely licensed and there is no fair use rationale then it cannot be uploaded or used.
  • If the image has already been deleted you may want to try Commons Undeletion Request

To take part in any discussion, or to review a more detailed deletion rationale please visit the relevant image page (File:Dhirubhai ambani.jpg)
