I'm wary of using Greenwich 2000 and Ideal Homes as sources for this article. The British History Online stuff is far more reliable. MRSC • Talk 09:22, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

I agree - we must build toward more and more reliable sources. I use British History quite a lot. However, it is preferable to have some source as a starting point, than no source at all. It is useful to know where somebody got their information from - and we can build from there with the intention of making the sources more and more reliable. I've just checked the Ideal Homes website and found this statement: "Ideal Homes: Suburbia in Focus is a joint project of the London Boroughs of Bexley, Bromley, Greenwich, Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark and the University of Greenwich." As the website is "Designed and Produced by the University of Greenwich" and is overseen by Dr June Balshaw - [1] - I would accept it as a reliable source. In the main article there are two different dates given for the division of Deptford between Greenwich and what became the London Borough of Lewisham. (around 1900 and 1965). I think both are wrong and it was really around 1930. I was told that when Herbert Morrison ( a relation of Peter Mandleson ?) was in charge of the LCC he was the leading light in a bit of gerrymandering. Deptford was solid Labour but Greenwich (the old LCC borough not the larger GLC version) was more evenly balanced. By giving the northern section of Deptford, including our ancient parish church St Nicks to Greenwich, Morrison ensured that Greenwich would have a permanent Labour voting majority. This eventually led to Deptford being unsustainable as a borough when the 1965 reorganization took place and we were swallowed by Lewisham. At the time this was very unpopular; people in Deptford said that Deptford had been a thriving community when what few people lived in Lewisham were still using woad !!87.115.146.40 (talk) 22:50, 25 March 2009 (UTC)

Deptford in Greenwich?

I don't think any of the past Metropolitan Borough of Deptford became part of the London Borough of Greenwich as this article says. The other articles (London Borough of Lewisham, London Borough of Greenwich, and Metropolitan Borough of Deptford, do not contain this statement. On the maps the boarders to me look close to an exact match, as if the whole of the Metropolitan Borough of Deptford is now in London Borough of Lewisham. If any area is now in Greenwich it must be a tiny part. Carlwev (talk) 14:13, 19 September 2009 (UTC)

Also there is a source marked by the statement but the source also says that the Metropolitan Borough of Deptford became part of the London Borough of Lewisham but not the London Borough of Greenwich, contrary to the statement it is sourcing. Hi, if you see this. I think it explains the discrepancy. The Deptford Royal Docks were originally included in LB Greenwich - but were transferred to LB Lewisham in 1996 as a boundary adjustment. It is ref'd here. How this is phrased in text, or indeed a detail that is required, is another matter. HTH Kbthompson (talk) 15:05, 19 September 2009 (UTC)
