Multiple Merge as the Result of an AfD[edit]

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Just_Another_Cringy_Username#Jack_Vance_novels

This discussion occurred on my talk page as a result of my AfD and subsequent actions. I'm posting it here for reference purposes and am willing to continue the discussion as long as it remains productive. Just Another Cringy Username (talk) 02:35, 7 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Just Another Cringy Username (JACU) merged all five novels in the series here, using the "justification" that another, quite experienced lvoter (who should have known better) recommended it in a brief Afd discussion that JACU started, then speedily withdrew in three days. As I stated before, they are the work of a major science fiction writer, and as such all, not surprisingly, have at least three reviews each:
  • Star King: 6 reviews
  • The Killing Machine: 5
  • The Palace of Love: 3
  • The Face: 6
  • The Book of Dreams: 7
In addition, both Star King and The Face had pre-existing review sections. All of this goes to satisfying WP:BOOKCRIT, which I pointed out to JACU, to no avail for some reason. Clarityfiend (talk) 09:05, 7 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I have notified Wikiprojects Science Fiction and Novels. Clarityfiend (talk) 09:13, 7 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
My !vote was hardly an approval for such a major change, and it is disappointing that it happened. My original proposal was based on a quick review of the content. They are all thinly referenced and highly duplicative. As such I was recommending that it should be condensed into one better referenced and better written article as a starting point. That wouldn't preclude rewriting all the articles now, or later, or someone wished to do so. Given they've had very little editing since 2006 it seemed unlikely that someone would offer to "fix" them all, including all the character articles that are similarly duplicative and unreferenced. Anyway, it was just an opinion and I shouldn't have "known better" whatever than means (if you are referring to me). It was just an opinion. The person who should have known better was the one who acted on it inappropriately. MarcGarver (talk) 09:21, 7 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I've also educated JACU on the process on my talk page. Let's hope that settles the matter. Jclemens (talk) 13:06, 7 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
