I have problems with the 1931 census numbers (And the pal.rem. numbers are taken from Khalidi): 218 persons in 69 houses.

Now, the only Rafats i find in Mills are:

  • p. 22 Rafat, Ramle District: 320 people, in 69 houses
  • p. 33 Kh Rafat, Hebron district, under as-Samu
  • p. 42 Rafat, Jerusalem District: 218 people, in 46 houses, I presume Rafat, Jerusalem

I don't get any of those to fit with this place, Huldra (talk) 22:59, 19 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Huldra: I'm wondering where is "Rafat, Ramle District" and why is it not in Khalidi (true?)? Then I notice that this place is very close to the boundary between the Jerusalem and Ramle sub-Districts and recall that the sub-District boundaries were adjusted frequently. Also, this place appears on the detailed maps as "Rafat", not as "Deir Rafat". So I believe that this place is "Rafat, Ramle District" and the "69 houses" is correct. However, the "218 people" is taken from the wrong Rafat and should be "320 people". Zerotalk 06:13, 21 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

User:Zero0000, Yeah, that was my suspicion also. In any case, this is another Khalidi mistake, (PS, your @Huldra: did not ping me?) Huldra (talk) 22:55, 21 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Photo uncertainty[edit]

The caption for the photo just added is translated (Google) as Dir Rafat. Looking at the photos of the monastry I can't see the building as part of it. The caption also says (again computer translation): "structure that was down to the battalion the Rangers and terrorists." Which is not very clear but suggests it was destroyed. I have put the Hebrew in the Commons details section. I am going to put up a 1948 photo of the monastry. Padres Hana (talk) 12:47, 31 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

User:Padres Hana I am really unsure about this picture. Khalidi does not mention any large structure in this village (and he usually does)... are you sure this isn't part of the monastery?Huldra (talk) 22:06, 20 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I agree. It does look monastic. But the windows are a different style from those of the monastry and it does seem to be standing in isolation. Too big for a villa? I'll move it to this page in case some other evidence appears. Padres Hana (talk) 22:16, 20 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Caption "building that was used as the regiments base for scouts and saboteurs"

Hmmm, I think we need more pictures from the monastery, to see if it is one of the buildings there, Huldra (talk) 22:35, 20 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I "recatted" it to the monastery; I am still not 100% sure though; still thinks it is far more likely to belong there, than in the Palestinian village, Huldra (talk) 23:08, 6 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
