Hello! Looking for advice about my stub page[edit]

Hello! I'm Dave Meslin, and this is my page/stub. I'm not sure who created it (thank you!). There are some errors, and missing information.

I know it's bad etiquette to edit your own page, so I'm reaching out for advice.

Thanks for your help! ~ dave Dave meslin (talk) 21:52, 8 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Dave meslin, how's it going. I can see what that article needs: secondary sourcing. There's this, and this--but I'm actually not sure if all that adds up to notability per WP:GNG. Drmies (talk) 21:57, 8 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    • Hello @Drmies! Thanks for this feedback. : ) I can provide links to many more examples of "significant coverage" from reliable mainstream sources. Would that be helpful? Dave meslin (talk) 13:25, 9 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
      • Dave meslin, yes--the best way to do this is to first read Wikipedia:Edit requests, and then follow the proper steps. Obviously you gotta look before you leap--is the edit specific, uncontroversial, necessary, sensible, and does it have proper secondary sourcing. The best way to make the best kind of request is to have a good understanding of what we do and how we do it; in other words, someone with experience in editing is more likely to make a successful request than someone who is not--I'm sure you understand what I mean. Practice.
The other thing is, and I just put a note on your talk page, you need to declare that COI, even if it seems redundant. Put a note on your user page, and put a note on this talk page--see Wikipedia:Conflict_of_interest#How_to_disclose_a_COI. I can do this for you, but that would defeat the purpose of my first point. So, declare the COI, and then find those sources (newspaper and magazine articles, I imagine), figure out what the text and what the sourcing would be, and place an edit request here. Good luck! Hello @Drmies! I've added a COI disclosure on this page, and on my user page.  : )
I'll submit my edit requests later this week, once I learn the proper etiquette. Thanks again! Dave meslin (talk) 17:45, 9 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Has anyone replied? I didn't create the page but am willing to help. Wiki ctlow (talk) 15:09, 20 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hello @Wiki ctlow! Thanks for your note. I've created my COI disclosures. My next step is to submit edit requests. Coming up soon! Dave meslin (talk) 13:50, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Quick question for @Drmies & @Wiki ctlow. When I'm ready to suggest an edit, should i click on "Add topic", and start a new thread? Dave meslin (talk) 13:52, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi! Just bumping this question, above. (for @Drmies+ @Wiki ctlow) Thanks! Dave meslin (talk) 13:17, 31 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Dave meslin, indeed, that is the best thing to do, to keep this organized. I think I pointed you to Wikipedia:Edit requests earlier, and I just had a look at it: it requires a bit of attention while reading. The simple thing to do is to just post on the talk page but then who's going to see it, unless it's Talk:Donald Trump? You can ping some editors, of course, but there's many editors and you don't know all of them, and the ones you know may not be the most relevant ones. So, the more complex way is to place a "formal" request, with a template, and Wikipedia:Edit Request Wizard helps you do that. You'll want to click the "COI" option". The good thing about that, once you're over the hump of learning how to do it, is that the request gets "advertised" in places where interested editors often check to see what's up--so that's what I would do. (I'm not that great at the technicalities, so read the stuff carefully--you're probably smarter than me.) Good luck with it, Drmies (talk) 17:11, 31 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, asleep at the switch here. Not getting emails when I have a new post to read ... will check and see about settings for that. Without following all of the COI and Edit Request links, I'm not really following the flow of how this works. I am findable on the InterWeb however (Charles T. Low Photography) with contact info if offline discussions would help. I think that your mission is important (needs to go wa-a-ay beyond municipal politics, but in the real world ...). COI Edit Request[edit]

Hello editors. This is a page about me, so I'm submitting an edit request and declaring my COI.

I'd like to propose a very small edit:

The first line currently states: "David Meslin is community organizer and activist in Toronto."

I no longer live in Toronto. I live in a small town called Eugenia, in Ontario. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eugenia,_Ontario

I can provide a photo of my drivers license, if you require evidence of my address.

Thank you for your time! ~ dave Dave meslin (talk) 13:13, 3 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! Just bumping this. @Drmies@Wiki_ctlow Thanks! Dave meslin (talk) 19:50, 14 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Dave meslin, as a matter of course, there is no process whereby you submit such material. The beauty of Wikipedia is that information should be based on secondary sources. I made a small edit, but really what this page needs is secondary sourcing, so go collect the newspaper articles etc. Good luck, Drmies (talk) 20:03, 14 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks @Drmiesdrmies! Ok, I get it.
I have lots of examples of published secondary sources. I thought I'd just start with something small and easy.  ; p
Thanks! I'll put together a list. Dave meslin (talk) 20:27, 14 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
