About Data Processing[edit]

Can somebody tell me about data processing:

  • What is data processing?
  • What are the categories of data processing
  • what is a data prcessing cycle?
  • What are the areas of data processing?
  • What are date processing operators?

and

  • What are the method of processing date??

The data of the computer have does not authenticity, in this regard what is the precution of the authenticity of data, please guide to all member of your user. -- — Preceding unsigned comment added by 220.227.168.118 (talk) 2009-09-04T01:36:56 (UTC)

this page must not be merged with information blah blah blah the term "data processing" is a perfect description of what computation is ie. data is processed any functional requirements can be categorised as either data requirements or process requirements buzz words and fads have obfuscated what once was a simple, direct and meaningful term almost as obfuscated as the first line of this talk! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Legless the oaf (talkcontribs) 2009-11-20T04:10:45 (UTC)

Obviously, information is outcome of processing raw data. Raw data, such as an Excel Sheet (e.g. including weight and height of students of a school), does not give any information to the owner, while just a simple averaging of a certain row or column generates a processed data that can generate information.

Then processing that information, e.g. relating average of two distinct row or column (say the heights to the weights), is a different mental or computational task. H. Shakouri G. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 188.118.70.157 (talk) 2010-09-20T08:29:58 (UTC)

Obsolescent[edit]

I think most people would agree that 'Data Processing' has largely been superceded by other terms. Jokem (talk) 13:34, 28 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I added a sentence to that effect. Peter Flass (talk) 23:54, 24 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Not a good idea to merge with Information processing[edit]

Whatever the original thought behind merging this article with "information processing," the latter article is largely about psychology and cognition. Psychology is all well and good in its place, but presumably someone looking up "data processing" wants to read about computing, not about cognitive psychology, the development of the adolescent brain, and so on. Merging the two, as suggested, would be a disservice to people who simply want to read about processing data. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 206.105.16.225 (talk) 01:14, 18 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, and I'm removing the tag. There are merges which should be made, but this is not one of them. Keep psychology and electronics separate. – Wbm1058 (talk) 14:23, 1 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

A processing device is (As part of a computer) a monitor (the screen).[edit]

I always go by the rule that a sentence should make sense if you remove words in parentheses. For this sentence we have "A processing device is a monitor." This doesn't make sense. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 192.12.184.7 (talk) 21:33, 14 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

too many similar articles[edit]

Why are there Electronic data processing, Automatic data processing, and Data processing, not to say Data processing system, etc.? Peter Flass (talk) 10:15, 26 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Pursuant to this I reworked this article to attempt to make it a generic article on manual and automated methods of data processing. I deleted the text from Automatic data processing and made it a disambiguation page for the company ADP and Electronic data processing, per WP:NOT 2.1 Wikipedia is not a dictionary. Deleted text[edit]

I deleted the following since it didn't seem relevant.

Processing[edit]

Data consists of nothing but facts which need to be converted into other forms to make it useful, clear and practically used. The process of converting facts to information is Processing.

Practically all naturally occurring processes can be viewed as examples of data processing systems where "observable" information in the form of pressure, light, etc. are converted by human observers into electrical signals in the nervous system as the senses we recognize as touch, sound, and vision. Even the interaction of non-living systems may be viewed in this way as rudimentary information processing systems. Conventional usage of the terms data processing and information systems restricts their use to refer to the algorithmic derivations, logical deductions, and statistical calculations that recur perennially in general business environments, rather than in the more expansive sense of all conversions of real-world measurements into real-world information in, say, an organic biological system or even a scientific or engineering system.
