Rewriting[edit]

I think that this article needs to be completely rewritten to meet with Wikipedia standards. There s a lot of extra waste information which can be removed. Such as the list of PMs who visited his fights - Somebody add the tag plz I dunno how — Preceding unsigned comment added by 117.207.245.206 (talk) 07:17, 19 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Dara Singh vs Stanislaus Zbyszko[edit]

I think that this article contains debatable information concerning Dara Singh's victory against Stanislaus Zbyszko. By the time Stanislaus Zbyszko had retired, Dara Singh was not even born, so I highly doubt that the fight between those two wrestlers ever took place. Please amend the information in question or cite its source of the information. Thank you. Giraunimo (talk) 18:07, 11 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Tributes Section[edit]

The tributes section just after the Death section is getting too long. I haven't seen this before on articles. Should the section be merged into the Death and only some of the important ones be kept? WP:UNDUE needs to be taken care of as well. Please comment. BPositive (talk) 18:31, 12 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Merge them to the death section, and agree with you, just keep the important names and remove some. Will prefer removing all though, instead will consider having: x, y, z expressed ...... on his death. -- ♪Karthik♫ ♪Nadar♫ 18:36, 12 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
How do you define Important ones? It in no way deviates from the topic. More information can be provided for in the death section. No reason for merge. Just have patience., I am working on its expansion too.Regards, theTigerKing  18:39, 12 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
That was a mess of a section. I have removed that section and transferred the content to Talk:Dara Singh/Tributes for now. Do whatever you want with the subpage, but please don't mess up the article page; we are not a directory for tributes. Do consider the fact that this is a page which many people will be seeing for a couple of days. We are an encyclopedia, not a memorial service. Come up with some nice prose about his death, and find a way to include some of the tributes. I repeat - Prose, not a list. Lynch7 18:50, 12 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Tiger, my only concern was WP:UNDUE. The article is about Dara Singh and not about Death of Dara Singh. Hope you get the point now. BPositive (talk) 05:03, 13 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Another Dara Singh[edit]

However, There was another Dara Singh from village Dulchipur near Tarn Taran in Distt Amritsar. He was about ten years elder to the Dara Singh here and more than 7' height, was the one who trounced King Kong. It was he who went to Malaysia/Singapore and earned his name in wrestling there. Most people are unaware about this Dara Singh Dulchipuria and they mix-up his achievements with Dara Singh Randhawa. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kooljeet (talkcontribs) 07:02, 17 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the case, then why don't you start an article on him if he is so notable. I see that you have added the same information as above in the article as well. However, I don't think that the info fits in this article. You have provided references and are good ones. But they don't have any place over here. Start a new article Dara Singh Dulchipuria instead and move the info there. Further, a disambiguation page can also be created. I'll be waiting for other editors to comment on this, else will remove that info in a day or two myself (if present). Thanks! BPositive (talk) 07:23, 17 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
let others comment on it, what they say??Kooljeet (talk) 18:32, 17 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Add a new article, that's the only solution. Clarificationgiven (talk) 06:00, 18 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Until this resolves, I have included the Singapore bit in this article because it is sourced. OK, it is sourced (like much in this thing) to the increasingly unreliable Times of India, but right now I don;t see what else we can do unless someone can find out where Singh was in 1948 etc. - Sitush (talk) 04:57, 19 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
can make other page with same name (DARA SINGH) or can't???"kJ" 04:50, 24 July 2012 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kooljeet (talkcontribs)
Yes, if you have reliable sources. I'd suggest that you start it in your sandbox and then ask someone to review it before the thing is moved into article space, if only to ensure that it ends up with an appropriate title. I don't mind doing that review - just drop me a note when you are ready. - Sitush (talk) 06:36, 24 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Due weight[edit]

A lot has gone on here since I tried to tidy things up last week. Practically all of the intervening stuff appears to be at best poor and sometimes downright dishonest. In the last hour or so I have twice removed this from the lead section. There are a couple of reasons:

  • Leads sumarise articles and so quotations (which require citations) rarely work well in the things
  • The source has a very long list of soundbite tributes from Bollywood etc personalities. It seems to me to be undue weight to select the quote of one person and place it so prominently. What is so special about that actor's opinion compared to, say, a behemoth such as Bachchan? - Sitush (talk) 04:38, 19 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Add it back, because a quote adds more importance towards the page, there are many other wikipedia pages, where same thing has been done. Clarificationgiven (talk) 04:50, 19 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Not even a "please"? Regardless, I will not. Previous sections of this page have discussed the "tribute" problem & we need to find a way round it with consensus. As for what other pages do, please read WP:OSE and note that none of us can patrol 4 million articles. - Sitush (talk) 04:54, 19 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Filmography[edit]

The filmography etc section is mostly unsourced and unlinked. Bearing in mind WP:NLIST, WP:V and the fact that a huge proportion of the films listed were B movies and therefore unlikely ever to have articles here, the thing needs pruning. A sourced "selected filmography" would be better. If any geek wants a (purported) complete list then they are welcome to click through to IMDb and chance the reliability of that. I don't think that using IMDb as a source for his movies is really an option because of its general unreliability, but I may be wrong - I don't do a lot of work on film-related stuff. - Sitush (talk) 05:14, 19 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Animeshkulkarni has done a great job of improving the section. Thanks. - Sitush (talk) 06:38, 24 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Personal life and politics[edit]

Don't you think that those sections have really low amount of content? I think such indexes should be expanded or just make them into one. Clarificationgiven (talk) 08:34, 26 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see how these two can be merged because they relate to completely different aspects - you cannot call his political role "personal life" and you cannot call his personal life "political". Were you thinking of some other, new heading to replace both of those? Is it really the case that neither can be expanded, given that I vaguely recall seeing you say recently that you hoped to be able to expand the entire thing? - Sitush (talk) 08:44, 26 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Not that, i mean, something like "Off screen" or some kind of title should be added, where we can add politics, personal life, that's how, i have seen that type of articles in few wiki pages around, remembering that at least i am unable to expand these sections right now.Clarificationgiven (talk) 09:05, 26 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hm. Would that include his wrestling stuff also? - Sitush (talk) 09:22, 26 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I guess, but then that would counter the whole subject.Clarificationgiven (talk) 09:24, 26 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Precisely my point. - Sitush (talk) 09:35, 26 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You sure heard about the death of Rajesh Khanna, if you remember, i had first added a quote from Akshay Kumar here, so how about make a section called "reactions" just like it's done with the page of Rajesh Khanna, where we can add the quotes regarding the loss of Dara Singh. Clarificationgiven (talk) 09:05, 26 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

No! Section of "reactions" from Khanna's article is also gonna go. I am not removing it yet because fans always come and add it again. But there is no reason to start that section of trivia in the first place on this article. §§AnimeshKulkarni (talk) 09:21, 26 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) Because such sections, like trivia sections, are discouraged. - Sitush (talk) 09:22, 26 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Well, there should be a solution for this conflict, those quotes are one hell of achievement anyway, also adds better impression towards the personality. Clarificationgiven (talk) 09:24, 26 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) There is a solution. It is called WP:CONSENSUS, and that policy is itself is based on arguments that follow policies and guidelines. So such a section is not going to happen. They are considered to be undue weight and should be incorporated within the normal prose of extant sections. You have, I think, been told before that lists of quotations/tributes are unacceptable. - Sitush (talk) 09:34, 26 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, I see that there is a real possibility that you are a sockpuppet of an indefinitely blocked user. Without wishing to prejudge the outcome of the current investigation, I am going to hold off replying further here until that matter is resolved. No offence is intended - I have much to do and there is not a lot of point wasting time discussing issues with socks. We can always return to this when the investigation is resolved. I hope that you understand. - Sitush (talk) 09:40, 26 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
