Founding of Buckley's Crossing[edit]

There is some disagreement for the founding date of Buckley's Crossing - the precursor to Dalgety. Tourism NSW suggests 1832, the Geograhic Names Board says "as early as 1837". I have used the Tourism NSW date because that is the first reference I found and because I suspect that the arrival of Edward Buckley as the first white settler was unlikely to have been well documented so both of the dates are probably guesses.

Feel free to change it if you disagree - the Geographic Names Board reference is the one in the reflist. Euryalus 01:36, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Naming[edit]

Isn't Dalgety named after Dalgety, Fife, the town which preceeded Dalgety Bay? 92.28.21.68 (talk) 05:38, 1 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Not in this case. Named after the wife of the surveyor of the region. Euryalus (talk) 12:30, 4 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Distances[edit]

"argued that Dalgety was too close to Melbourne and too far from Sydney" - In straight line distances, Sydney is 4 miles closer. In current driving distances, Sydney is about 100 miles closer. :) 2001:56A:FA85:3800:F025:1DDC:1291:994C (talk) 20:20, 15 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
