Unnamed thread

Not sure what the problem is right now, but I'll have another look and try to find out more about Daddy Yankee... Wathiik 13:21, 14 May 2005 (UTC)

Cleaning-up

Well, I've added a little bit more information, another picture, corrected his discography. I want to know if the article is properly written now or needs more work. If it does, I'll try to find more information about him, because even though his fame has catapulted in the last year, correct information about puerto rican rappers is a little hard to find on the web. unverified information found

I found this at Barrio Fino En Directo. It doesn't belong there, but if it can be verified and cleaned up it may belong here.

"Daddy Yankee is one of the best reggaeton artist today. He has won a Grammy and has sold over one million albums and has traveled around the world. He was born in Puerto Rico and raised there. He once got shot for being with a groups of people that were bad but he recovered and left that life to follow his dream of being a great reggaeton artist and he made it.

Daddy Yankee is now very successful and he says he has much more to accomplish in his life and is working in lots of projects. He did a album with other new artist called Sangre Nueva and it is selling very well.

...

Another album he is working hard is Cartel Which he is making with other great artist and he says he is very proud of this album that is going to come out very soon.

Daddy Yankee is one very successful artist and has many more dreams to accomplish.

Trekkie Rumbles?

This page is worrying me. "the death of music as we know it"?

Not to mention the large paragraph on his "minor illegal activities"...could we get an expert in here?

He's on record conceding that he was a minor hustler; of course, he did not elaborate on specifics, hence the wording. He somehow hinted he worked for a drug kingpin on a radio interview, perhaps as a courier and not as a major player (actual drug seller, hitman, etc.) As him being shot once, that's old news; he constantly refers to this as his turning point in life.Demf 00:16, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

Those albums aren't his

Cartel and Cartel 2 are compilations(?)of many reggaeton artists

Timeline

I've tried cleaning this page up as much as I could. I don't know as much about Daddy Yankee as others. The time line for information on this page is a little off. It'll shift from the beginning of his career to the present and back. We need someone who knows more about the man to add, edit or remove information. I've only changed things grammatically. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by BaRiMzI (talkcontribs) 15:28, 16 April 2007 (UTC).

Discography

I'm pretty sure Daddy Yankee released 1 or 2 albums from 1995 to 2000. I wasn't living in Puerto Rico during that time so I wouldn't know. Let's try to find more info about the missing albums. --Pasajero 22:27, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

Apparently he released 1 album entitled El Yankee 2 between No Mercy and Cartel 1.

Rivalries

I recently made an edit on his publicized rivalries but it was reverted as vandalism. Just to clarify, for anyone who is not directly involved in the Reggaeton business and probably doesn't get up to date information and status on artists, Daddy Yankee has released a track on his Myspace called "Mensaje De Estado", this track will be included in El Cartel 3: The Big Boss, as we all know the album was leaked last week, on this track there is a line: "Los tengo de hijos, a los artistas del sellito del Gus" which basically means in English: "I have them as sons, the artists of Gus's little label". This is referring to Gus Lopez's label Machete Music. Parting from this information we can come to the conclusion that, because they were the first exclusive artists from Machete Music, he is referring to Wisin & Yandel, it is absurd to believe he talks about "MJ" or "La Sista" (Other Machete Music Artists). More evidence of this is the following line: "... porque antes eras barbero, con que peine me vas a matar fekero, con la 1, la 2, la 3, o la 0". A quick look into Wisin & Yandel's Wikipedia page shows that Yandel was a barber before becoming an artist. He also makes mention of "Pistolero" which is a famous Wisin & Yandel song. I hope this clears any confusion this might have caused, local news in Puerto Rico have also referenced this beef, but it always takes a while for Reggaeton news to reach other parts of the world. Dazed87 11:00, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

  • So whos exaclty is daddy yankee beefing with? I was wondering should we include the reason why don omar and daddy yankee are beefing as it was mentioned through the new album.

Is daddy yankee beefing with wisin y yandel?

Yes Dazed87 04:53, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

Im from australia, i keep up to date with reggaeton as i have roots from argentina, reggaeton is very slow in reaching in australia. so i was thinking should we outline hte reason why daddy yankee is beefing with other artists.

Yeh slowly, very slowly. I'm also from down under and I guess it is kind of reaching Australia but that is only because we are so American now and anything in mainstream America is pretty much in mainsteam Australia! But yeh I don't know exactly where you are from but I am from Sydney and I have heard Don Omar and a few reggaeton songs on Koori radio and also a few days ago I heard Daddy Yankee's new one (Impacto Remix) on the Edge. But apart from that and of course the Latino radio programs reggaeton hasn't gotten much mainstream exposure! In saying that it is up to us as Latinos to spread the word and "stand tha fuk up!" TeePee-20.7 15:03, 30 June 2007 (UTC)

Im from griffith NSW, and there aint no reggeaton here, you cant even buy the album or order it because they havnt heard anything about it. Trimy67 00:18, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

Yeh VERY slowly, it probably won't even reach there for another 10 years that's how fast it's going. But yeh they should be able to order it. TeePee-20.7 08:24, 15 July 2007 (UTC)

Children

I removed the sentence "Daddy Yankee has 3 or 4 children by a Naya Narvaez" from the musical careeer section. It should be moved to a personal life section if one is ever created and/or expanded. Cheers216.91.240.14 21:46, 21 June 2007 (UTC) Sorry, wasn't signed in.Oons 21:48, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

"the best reggaeton artist ever"/"the best reggaeton album ever" - biased

I think this discussion simply should not exist, but, for the sake of fairness...

I think this is biased, for sure. Saying he is successful is one thing, but saying he is "the best reggaeton artist ever" is another. I will edit it, if no one replies. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Yubal (talkcontribs) 03:07, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

Charitable Work ? Sounds like False Advertising.

Ayala created the "Fundación Corazón Guerrero"[who?] charitable organization in Puerto Rico, which works with young incarcerated people. The foundation helps troubled youth and ex-convicts in computer skills to encourage them to lead a positive lifestyle after their release.[1]

http://www.milenio.com/index.php/2007/05/19/70650/

I went to the link, its in Mexico, not Puerto Rico. Sounds like blatant propaganda.

Good Article nomination

I have worked with this article for some time and will give it a go at GAN, I will try to attend any concerns or suggestions presented here, cheers. - Caribbean~H.Q. 22:38, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

The majority of the article seems good...but i think the discography needs to be changed and put into a seperate articles like many other musicians articles.Duder999 16:25, 5 Feb 2008

Please check one of my edits

The original version of this article had the following sentence -

"He was subsequently instructed by other artists in the genre including DJ Playero, DJ Nelso and DJ Goldy in order to develop an original style."

The article then goes on to say that this led the artist to become one of the first to perform reggaeton. I'm not 100% sure what the quoted sentence means since I am not familiar with this performer or the genre. In my last edit I changed it to state that he "emulated" the other artists, "trying" develop an original style. Is this correct? I don't want to inadvertently change the sense of the original. Zariane (talk) 11:37, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

I don't think the significance changes much, he was instructed by then so technically the new sentence is correct. - Caribbean~H.Q. 14:51, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

Name

What source indicates his name as being Ramón instead of just Raymond? I had always thought it was just Raymond. Just asking before editing. ~RayLast «Talk!» 19:52, 14 February 2008 (UTC)

GA on hold

  • "He promoted the album by an international tour" - by --> with
  • For the website in the infobox, just use the URL, rather than "official website"
  • The personal life section should go after the musical career
  • "Ayala married Mireddys González when he was seventeen years old and the couple have three children.", need a comma here to indicate they NOW have 3 children
  • Ref 2 isn't in English, right? Say that
  • "He went on to emulate other artists in the genre, including DJ Playero, DJ Nelson, and DJ Goldy, trying to develop an original style." - he tried to develop his own style by copying others...? Maybe I'm missing something
  • "Ayala first recorded with DJ Playero, as a featured artist" - comma not needed
  • "a direct sequel to the previous production that was influenced by the same genres." - reword to "a direct sequel to the previous production, and influenced by similar genres."
  • "The album has sold over 500,000 copies in the United States alone and has sold well throughout Latin America and worldwide" - ref needed
  • "reaching the gold record category in Japan." --> "certified gold in Japan."
  • "Due to the album's success, Ayala received promotional contracts with radio stations and soda companies, including Pepsi." - again, needs ref
  • Ref 10, publisher/author info needed
  • 2nd para of 2006—Present section has a stack of "also"s that sound bad
  • "According to Billboard magazine," - italics for magazine titles
  • The discog could be split to a separate article

Leave a note on my talk page when done. Cheers, dihydrogen monoxide (H20) 09:39, 15 February 2008 (UTC)

    • Why didn't you just fix them? ~RayLast «Talk!» 19:21, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
      • A few reasons. 1) Fixing all the issues would make me no longer an uninvolved reviewer, so you'd have to wait for someone else to do it. 2) I can't fix any issues to do with sourcing and stuff, when I know nothing about the article subject, about where to look for sources, etc. 3) I personally find it easier just to list everything than to click edit all the time; it's faster for me, and you can fix them in a few seconds while dealing with the big stuff at the same time. You'll notice, however, that I did fix some really obvious things while doing the review (and screwed something up in the process, thankfully the next edit fixed it). So yeah, those are my reasons for reviewing the way I do. You're welcome to discuss this further here, or at WT:GAN if you're interested in what others have to say. Regards, dihydrogen monoxide (H20) 22:33, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
  • Comment: I'd like a reference for "poor areas of San Juan", please. Level of poverty is generally relative; I think it's best to change it to a different term (slum?). Anyway, in exactly which barrio was he born? I think it's important to add this, considering you're claiming it's poor. --Agüeybaná 22:56, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
Thanks DM, a very complete review as always, I will take care of all these issues on Monday. Eddie he was born in Rio Piedras, as far as the "poor" part, that was taken directly from one of the biographies used to asemble this article, so it should be easy to reference. - Caribbean~H.Q. 03:48, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

Passed. With the discog, you could just cut and paste the info there into a Daddy Yankee discography or similar. And then look at some other discogs (especially the FLs) for ideas on where to go from there. Ping me if you need more help. Cheers, dihydrogen monoxide (H20) 08:07, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

Hard Evidence

It's official the tiraera between him and Don Omar has been squashed! If this[1] isn't proof enough then I don't know what is! Maybe this could be somehow incorporated into the article. TeePee-20.7 (talk) 09:09, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

Non-standard discography infoboxes

This article should be removed from this category as it no longer applies to it, or if kept the custom text should be reinserted in the infobox. TeePee-20.7 (talk) 09:22, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

Cane

Should we include his appearances on tv shows? Because I remember he was on the show Cane so maybe this can somehow be worked into the article.TeePee-20.7 (talk) 13:51, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

I would like to know the list of awards that he has won through out his career such as Grammies, billboards, etc. 71.101.63.103 (talk) 00:51, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

Endorsement

I left a line and reference about his endorsement to Republican McCain.--Neveryou (talk) 21:18, 27 August 2008 (UTC) He is also going to sing for the Republican party in Saint Paul. When the list of songs comes up we will so how down they are with the lyrics.

I corrected a tiny typo you made. You typed "Sign" instead of "Sing." Pvegeta (talk) 20:25, 21 October 2008 (UTC)

Is the Spanish correct?

"Vota o Quédate Callao" - Is "callao" supposed to be like "calla'o", with the d silent? Also, I propose this article be delisted as a B-class article. There are many basic mistakes in the article. I'll look over it more, but if I find more, I will propose it to be delisted (i.e "the couple have..."). obentomusubi 07:57, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

Wow, that is a "brilliant" reason for reassessment... Now go on and tell it to the editors at Primera Hora, who wrote it just like it was sourced here. - Caribbean~H.Q. 23:32, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
