      • Model of the Year***

It was in either 1967 or 1968 that she won the title of Model of the Year. I remember being enthralled with this show. It aired weekday afternoons during the summer of either 1967 or 1968. It competed with the soaps of the time. Each day one girl would win and then all the winners competed against each other. Cybill was the ultimate winner. Quite deservedly so, as I recall. I was only about 11 years old at the time but do remember this distinctly. Cybill also makes reference to her Model of the Year win in her book. Elvis material?

I notice this text was removed without comment earlier:

"Shepherd also met Elvis Presley in 1972, and she mentions in her autobiography that they had a short, uneventful affair. Years later, in an interview with E! television, Shepherd spoke of the relationship with Presley, saying, "He was a wonderful lover, very sexy." [citation needed]"

Pagan?

I have removed the following section:

At the Golden Globe awards in 1995. First she "thanked God". Then she kind of stopped a minute - you could see she was making up her mind. She took a deep breath and said "And I want to thank the Great Mother Goddess for the gift of righteous anger and for all Her strength and inspiration. Blessed Be!" Later when she was interviewed she was asked what she was going to do after she got home, and she said "have a drink, get laid and cast a spell or two." [1]

If it's true, it would have made news; Google search wasn't really helpful (a few mentions at discussion boards etc.), but if it took place in 1995, the articles probably won't be online any more. The Glamour magazine cover

I believe it was Polly Platt, the wife of Peter Bogdanovich, who actually saw the Glamour magazine cover in a Ralph's grocery store somewhere in southern California, and brought it to Peter. At the time, they were in pre-production for The Last Picture Show. I'll check on the sourcing, but I do have the interview with Polly Platt where she talks about the discovery of Shepherd. Political activism

Can someone expand on the gay right and abortion rights activism she has been involved in? Personally I don't know much about her and I was pleasantly surprised to read this, but do you have evidence? Also, I saw on tv more than once some negative reference about Cybill Shepherd being something like a poor excuse of woman, someone women should be ashamed of, or something like that. I have never read about that and was wondering where this would come from, if she has been very active in some field to generate such a response? 195.190.180.28 (talk) 22:05, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

Wikipedia 0.7 issues

This article has been chosen to be part of the Wikipedia 0.7 release. As such, there are some major issues to be addressed. Whether referenced or not, nearly the entire section of personal life focuses on her sex partners or potential sex partners. This adds enormous undue weight to this aspect of Shepherd's life, while barely brushing over charitable and political activism. I'm going to refer it to the team of copywriters for clean up.   • In John Waters's film Desperate Living (1977), one female character says to another who is acting vain: "Who do you think you are? Cybill Shepherd?"
  • In the documentary Picture This - The Times of Peter Bogdanovich in Archer City, Texas (1991) dealing with behind-the-scenes look on the films The Last Picture Show (1971) and Texasville (1990), Shepherd's co-star Timothy Bottoms (who also produced the documentary) revealed that he had a crush on her during The Last Picture Show but she did not reciprocate his feelings in 1970. Shepherd (in 1989) seemed flattered by his revelation and nuzzled up to him and teased him about whether it's too late for them to consummate the relationship.
  • In the episode of the highly popular TV Sitcom Friends entitled The One after the Super Bowl Part 2, Ross (David Schwimmer) asks the trainer of his monkey Marcel for the movie "How big a star Marcel is?" The trainer replies "In Human terms, I'd say Cybill Shepherd."
  • Annette Bening's character in American Beauty (1999), Carolyn Burnham, was supposedly based on Shepherd. (Shepherd, in an interview with Larry King, said that she wasn't aware that the character was based on her, but praised the film, Bening, and the screenwriter Alan Ball, who had earlier written for her TV show Cybill.)[1]
  • In an episode of Family Guy, "The Fat Guy Strangler", Peter says he feels just as good after creating a fat club as when he slayed the dragon. It then cuts to Peter in a suit of armor going up to Shepherd's house and starting a battle with her while she exhibits many qualities of a dragon, such as being able to fly and breathing fire. Peter eventually cuts off her head with a sword and presents it to the people of the nearby village, saying, "People! You are free!"
  • In another episode of Family Guy, "Fifteen Minutes of Shame", Stewie tells the cameraman to "make sure to use the Cybill Shepherd lens; if they can make her look half human, they should be able to shave six months off my face." This was in reference to the filtered softening lens used during close-up shots of her in Moonlighting


1, 3, 6 and 7 are "cultural references" and should (IMO anyway) be given their own section in the page...the rest is pretty much prattle and gossip and should be ignored. Cultural references are, for some actors and actresses, a way of knowing you've "made it"...if they reference your work or your name elsewhere, it means your name is worth dropping because they know people will know you and will laugh at the reference (obv. ignoring those from Family Guy, they tend to not be so well received although they're usually funny) 78.86.230.62 (talk) 23:06, 2 June 2009 (UTC)

Working relationships

I'm surprised no mention is made of her reputation as a "difficult" actress to work with. It's very well documented that she feuded with Bruce Willis on Moonlighting (and that there is no love lost between them) and likewise with Christine Baranski and much of the behind-the-scenes personnel of "Cybil." Son Arrested Jan 2010

Though this article says representation unclear, there is an AP video out that includes an interview with defense council. I'd properly edit it in, but I'm short on time. Robert De Niro asked her out

and she said know and they where still able to play a couple that went out to a porn movie? Singer?

She is categorized as a singer, and a mention is made of her recording an album, but nowhere in the article is it mentioned that she sings. I know she had an album, "vanilla" which appears to be a 78 or 79 recording, reissued in 1990 on the gold castle record label. I reckon we ought to get around to putting this in the article one of these days.Mercurywoodrose (talk) 05:45, 1 August 2010 (UTC)

She can't be called a singer, but "alleged singer" would be acceptable. Calling her a "singer" would be on a par with calling Hallmark's staff of greeting card doggerelists, "Nobel laureates."24.90.190.96 (talk) 10:32, 17 November 2013 (UTC)

Star on Walk of Fame

Cybill Shepherd has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, awarded in January 1988. Maybe this isn't the sort of thing normally mentioned in Wikipedia, except that the opening sequence for her 1995-98 TV show Cybill has a Walk of Fame star with her name, but drawn in chalk. --73.114.26.46 (talk) 09:54, 17 January 2017 (UTC)

Years 2013-

Reading the article you could start to think it was written several years ago. The article contains nearly nothing about "recent" years. As far as I can see, there's the odd entry in film and TV lists, and two entries re "Do you believe". Then... nothing. Adding "update" template. CapnZapp (talk) 19:56, 16 September 2018 (UTC)

Autobiography section

Who cares who she said she dated in her autobiography? Is this really the place for point form rundowns of romantic escapades? If it can't be worked into an existing section's copy, does it have to be here at all? Gordonzed (talk) 18:36, 28 January 2020 (UTC)
