==Wait, what? I live in the Western United States (namely Oregon) and I don't understand the point of this article. What "unique" cuisine do we have here? Salmon is unique to the area, we cook it and eat it. That's not cuisine. Are blackberries unique here? We do the same things with them that you do with blueberries: make juice, jams, and pies. How are mushrooms unique here? I know those are also popular in Japan. Unless you can cite something, I have to contend that we have no unique cuisine. West of Texas, North of Mexico and South of Canada we eat fast food and chinese. :P Jesset77 (talk) 22:26, 21 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Is it unique?[edit]

Having lived in California, where i live now, in Oregon, in Washington, in Utah, and in Colorado (right on the edge of Wyoming, too!), and having traveled extensively in the West (and lived in Eastern Canada, so i have that and a sojourn in Europe to help me in comparing . . . and being from a Southern family, so i was raised on 'southern vittles'), i suppose i know as much about it as you do, Jessett77. But i do find it interesting to read what you say. The fairly unadorned local foods, our own mushrooms, not Japan's, for instance, would characterize our Western dishes, i would say . . . but maybe that does not constitute a cuisine . . . . We speak of 'California cuisine' where i live now . . . and i think that has counterparts in other nearby states, melding into something that could be characterized as our own cuisine . . . not so sure we are all eating 'Chinese' and fast food . . . not that i don't eat both of those, Mexican, Tex-Mex, and so forth . . . i'm an omnivore, i gotta admit (right down to fast food . . . )! - b (it's just fun talking about this . . . always love talking about food!)betswiki (talk) 23:20, 20 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
