"Autistic Children" Comment[edit]

I was hoping to get some second opinions as to whether the Autistic Children statement in the opening paragraph is vandalism, or simply needs to be rephrased. --Tordenofitami (talk) 08:03, 12 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • The statement is sourced. What's the problem? Andrew D. (talk) 09:42, 12 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Apologies for the months long delay, I revisited this and wish to reopen the discussion. While it may be factually true, I think it may need to be rephrased to seem like less of a non-sequitur, since it could be seen as jarring due to the stigmatism of autism, especially on the internet. I completely agree. It's a very bold statement to do, and simply because it has a reference does not 100% mean it's true. I'm new at this, but I am sure I've seen comments that we should aim for "double reference" or something similar. Essentially, not simply have someone say something in a book. The quote I imagine it is refering to says: "Children seeking proprioceptive input sometimes enjoy tight spaces. Create a spot for them in a closet or a closet-like area (under the stairs, other cubby type places in the house as a calming place to self-regulate, read, or do homework." Found on page 40, under paragraph "Hideout" (ISBN 978-1-935274-06-3) I believe this is taking the quote a bit far, and comes out almost as gratuitous form of promotion, but the book doesn't appear to be referred to anywhere else so I'll put that down to my own lack of trust. For now I propose to make the comment less bold, see changes. Christopher.degrauwe (talk) 15:03, 17 January 2019 (UTC)CDegrauwe3[reply]

I also think this sentence should be deleted, but for a different reason: it's simply not relevant here; it's a random fact that might be informational in an article about autism, but doesn't tell us anything about cubbies. "What is a cubby-hole? It's a place that autistic children can benefit from". I'm going to delete it. Anyone who feels strongly can restore it if they like. --ABehrens (talk) 22:47, 5 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
