Untitled[edit]

There seems to be no documentary evidence that Maldred of Carlisle was related to Crinan of Dunkeld and certainly not to his wife, Bethoc. What exists is more of a genealogical legend which has been perpetuated by people who do not want their family tree's to have dead ends. If anyone has a document that associates Maldred with Crinan, such as witnessing a royal charter, or giving to a Monastery of founding a Priory, let's see it.DocSpenser (talk) 03:20, 11 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Washington[edit]

I highly doubt many people whose ancestry doesn't originate in the British Isles could possibly have any ancestry from him. Would the entire Russian or Italian or German populations be descended from one medieval Scot? No, of course not. The entire royal family of Britain is descended from Crínán, ergo anyone descended from Henry I of England is descended from Crínán. Literally millions of Italian and German people are descended from Crínán. And yes, Russians are as well since many of their noble families also had Norman and Plantagenet ancestry. I know this conversation is four years old, but I'd like to add that it would be similar to say X is a descendant of Gengis Khan. Yeah, him and millions of others. What is the evidence that Crinan married Bethoc?[edit]

The various versions of the Chronicle of Scotland records:

Donchath mac Cran Abbatis de Dunkelden et Bethok filia Malcolm mac Kynnet vi. annis regnavit et interfectus est a Maketh mac Fyngel in Bothngouane et sepultus in Yona insula.

[Donchath mac Trini Abbatis de Dunkeld et Bethoc filiae Malcom mac Kinat 6 an. Interfectus a MacBeth mac Finleg in Bothgouananet sep. in Iona.]

translation:

Duncan son of Cran, abbot of Dunkeld, and Bethoc daughter of Malcolm son of Kenneth reigned 6 years and killed by MacBeth son of Finlay and buried in the Island of Iona.

Family[edit]

Barrow is incorrect. Maldred was a son of Crinan (aka Karl Hundisson) from his first marriage - ie prior to Bethoc. Freuchie (talk) 10:53, 31 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
