Convair 240 N55VM

Just for information "The National Transportation Safety Board determines that the the probable cause of this accident was fuel exhaustion and total loss of power from both engines due to crew inattention to fuel supply. Contributing to the fuel exhaustion were inadequate flight planning and an engine malfunction of undetermined nature in the right engine which resulted in higher-than-normal fuel consumption (NTSB-AAR-78-6)" MilborneOne 22:15, 9 September 2006 (UTC)

C-131 Samaritan

MilborneOne, I found this page by accident today, and had no clue you had just add the military variants list just today! I saw the long list in the articel and thought, "Now why isn't all this on its own page?" I was already looking for some more pics of the CV-2400/340/440s, and found one of a C-131 on one of the interwikis. So, I went ahead and created the new article. Hopefully, you'll have more info you can add there, and the text definitly needs cleaning up and rewriting. I'll try to do what I can on that this week. - BillCJ 08:17, 10 July 2007 (UTC)

Number built

Hi. I'm a bit skeptic on the amount of 1181 given here. As far as I'm aware this should be 1077; 1 Cv110 (the prototype), 448 Cv240 (incl T-29A/B/C), 92 T-29D, 510 Cv340/440 (incl C-131B/D/E/F) and 26 C-131A. This excludes the 10 Canadair build examples. Accidents and incidents section

This list is now starting to engulf the article and is being separated into a sub-article. If every accident of a long-lasting transport type were listed, it would be unnecessarily long. FWiW Bzuk (talk) 15:56, 17 August 2011 (UTC).

It would be more normal to be at List of accidents and incidents involving the Convair CV-240 family to match others of the same type and in Category:Lists of aviation accidents and incidents. MilborneOne (talk) 17:15, 17 August 2011 (UTC)
Sound right, you make the move or me? Also need to look at C-46 and Constellation sub-articles. FWiW Bzuk (talk) 17:18, 17 August 2011 (UTC).
No problem I will look at them, thanks. MilborneOne (talk) 17:24, 17 August 2011 (UTC)

(Redirected from Convair 660)

'Convair 660', mentioned in the Rolls-Royce RB.203 article, redirects here, but this article makes no mention of it. So, what was the Convair 660? 86.183.83.192 (talk) 03:58, 5 September 2012 (UTC)

According to this issue of Flight [1] it was a projected Trent turbofan-powered aircraft similar to the Fokker F-28 but with over-wing engines and looking more like a smaller Boeing 737.

'Not similar enough'?

What? See below - some very significant similarities, I would have said.

Element CV 240 family HS 748
Design case DC3 replacement DC3 replacement
Crew 2 – 3 flight deck crew 2 flight deck, 1 pass. attendant
Pax capacity 40 – 52 (CV-440) 40 - 58
Empty weight 11,542 kg – 13,381 kg 12,347 kg
Max Take-off / gross weight 19,278 kg 21,092 kg
Wingspan 27.97 m 31.32 m
Length 22.76 m 20.42 m
Height 8.2 m 7.57 m
Wing area 75.9 m2 77 m²
Cruise speed 451 km/h 452 km/h
Range 1931 km 1715 km
Powerplants Various, including x 2 Rolls-Royce Dart turboprops (CV 640). x 2 Rolls-Royce Dart turboprops

A further point of similarity - both of these aircraft are still flying after half a century or so - I saw a CV-580 (ZK-CIE) just the other day. But I had to look twice to make sure it wasn't a 748. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pinot (talkcontribs) 00:35, 25 November 2013 (UTC)

Why £

Why are prices for an airplane produced by an American firm quoted in pounds and not dollars?Wschart (talk) 18:37, 4 August 2016 (UTC)

Because it is sourced to a British journal, you are welcome to replace it with an American sourced figure. MilborneOne (talk) 13:59, 5 August 2016 (UTC)

what years was this aircraft built? conflicting information within WP

The info box says until 1954. That's not what the references or Wikipedia article says.

The external links has a link to the BBC. That BBC article is about a specific airframe that was first flown in 1959. The variants section mentions a CV-540 from 1955.

Help.

Number built

Since the info box at the top of the page covers all ConvairLiner models, not just the 240, it would be logical to show the total production period for all models and not only for the original 240 model. I believe that should thus read 1947-1961 (or 1960 depending when the last of the 10 Canadair-built CC-109 Cosmopolitans were built...it was delivered March 1961 but may have been built in 1960). Even without those 10 aircraft, the last Convair 440 was delivered in 1959, not 1954.

I also believe the total production figure of 1,181 is incorrect and should read 1,086 as shown in many sources and detailed fleet lists --Viscount724 (talk) 19:36, 10 August 2020 (UTC)
