Affairs?

"Extramarital AFFAIRS"?!?! There was only one. I corrected that. --Nightandday (talk) 12:49, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

Titles

The book title Touching From a Distance is a line from Transmission, not She's Lost Control --138.37.171.119 (talk) 11:15, 14 February 2007 (UTC) Whoops. Just realised the film title is different (and terrible). Sorry! --138.37.171.119 (talk) 11:40, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

The song Shes lost control wasnt a hint to Ians own life...its an experience he made when working with epileptic people. He got in touch with a young girl with epilpsy who dies afterwords. The songs abount this experience... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.217.248.18 (talkcontribs) 12:48, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

American release

american release date anyone? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.157.46.188 (talkcontribs) 23:51, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

Plot

The plot reads terribly, with many spelling mistakes and missing grammar. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 149.170.192.130 (talkcontribs) 22:23, 7 October 2007 (UTC)

I did some work on cleaning it up last night. But I think it's far too long and needs some serious editing. --Davorg (talk) 12:35, 8 October 2007 (UTC)

Annik confesses?

"She finds Annik's telephone number and calls her. Annik confesses all." — It is not borne out by either the movie or the book that "Annik confesses all". Annik answers the phone and then the movie cuts to another scene. When Ian comes home, Deborah asks "Who's Annik Honore?" --163.156.240.17 (talk) 14:06, 9 October 2007 (UTC)

Headlines

My changes

Since the edit summary isn't that long, I'll describe my reasons here.

First, Anton Corbijn wasn't just a "fan" of the band. Joy Division was the first band he worked with after he went to England. Working with the band boosted his career as a serious photographer. As such, he met Curtis on several occassions. In several interviews on Dutch television and on his Palm Pictures DVD he spoke about his relationship with the man.

Secondly, Corbijn directed music videos four years prior to 1988's rerelease of Atmosphere. Already he worked with U2 and Depeche Mode.

Tony Wilson

Maybe a mentioning of Tony Wilson recently passing away should be mentioned somehow? Maybe referenced from an article about his death and if it affected the post production anyhow? --JanderVK (talk) 07:08, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

Post-production on the movie is done, so I can't see how Tony Wilson's death, while unfortunate, would warrant mention in this article, unless they did a dedication to him or something. --Fullmetaljacuzzi (talk) 18:40, 16 August 2007 (UTC)
It's complete myth that Tony Wilson signed the contract in his own blood, so I edited it out. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.58.109.211 (talkcontribs) 17:02, 24 November 2007 (UTC)
This is about the plot of the film, in which it occurs. --Patrick (talk) 17:55, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

Deborah Curtis

should something be added to the article about the fact that Deborah Curtis "Fucking Hated" the film? Peter Hook stated this after a screening of a documentary about the band, and it was posted in a recent myspace bulletin from the official JD myspace page. --65.43.208.170 (talk) 10:09, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

There is an interview with her at joydiv.org [1] and she only states that she was actually more timid and less confrontational than portrayed in the film. Also that Samantha Morton made the part her own and basically just used the book and her own experiences as a mother.
Peter Hook's comment is hearsay and was made in the context of the documentary, which is said to also have some issues because it does not include any interviews with Deborah Curtis. Hook said the documentary is the perfect "answer" to Control
It can be implied former joy division members are not very happy with the movie because it might be inaccurate as to how influential Ian was in the band...If one listens to New Order and Joy Division one wonders why would they even bother.. Ian would have been noone without them --Cerealitosnocturnos (talk) 23:55, 16 December 2007 (UTC)

DVD release date

Was looking forward to purchasing the DVD today but it appears the US DVD release date has been pushed back to June 2008 (at least on Amazon.com). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.173.92.191 (talkcontribs) 11:13, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

Pre-GA review

Per Chimeric Glider (talk · contribs)'s request on my talk page, I am going to list a few issues I spotted with this article so that it may be further improved to facilitate a future GA review.

  • First, the plot section seems a bit too long in comparison with the rest of the article. I would suggest that you attempt to flesh out the other sections with more information and perhaps give the synopsis a bit of a trim, focusing only on the main plot points.
  • I've noticed a few instances of unnecessary punctuation (especially commas) throughout; please go through and copy edit carefully, or ask for the assistance of one (or several) of the people listed here.
  • There are some issues with formatting—the ways you have written dates and formatted citations are not consistent. Please pick one way for each and stick with it.
  • The citations themselves are sometimes missing key information such as last access date and publisher, among other things.
  • The external links section could use a trim; please only include the links that are essential—personally, I'd get rid of most of them besides the official website.

Hope these comments are useful!

GA Review

This review is transcluded from Talk:Control (2007 film)/GA1. The edit link for this section can be used to add comments to the review.

I recently saw this movie and enjoyed it immensely (if "enjoy" is the correct word to use, that is). This article is fairly good, but it needs a little more work as far as the criteria goes, specifically in regards to its prose (1a) and its broadness (3a). Here are my suggestions/comments for improvement:

  • The lead section needs to be tweaked and/or rewritten somewhat:
  • The sentence dedicated to the film's title violates WP:LEAD since it isn't mentioned anywhere else in the article; I think it could be removed entirely for now.
  • Nowhere does it say that Sam Riley stars as Curtis, which needs to be made clear in the very first paragraph.
  • Control is a 2007 film is not specific enough for the leading sentence; what genre is it?
  • Black-and-white needs to be linked.
  • The screenplay written by Matt Greenhalgh is based on the book Touching from a Distance: "The screenplay was written by Matt Greenhalgh, who based it on the book..."
  • The film was winner of the Director's Fortnight...: "The film won the Director's Fortnight..."
  • The long litany of awards only appears in the lead, which also violates WP:LEAD; this info should be moved to the "Reception" section and briefly summarized in the lead. Also, remove quotes for prize names like "Best British Independent Film".
  • The plot needs to be cut down drastically. According to WP:MOSFILM, plot sections are to be "between 400 and 700 words and should not exceed 900 words". Because the plot is not so very complicated, this shouldn't be hard. I also suggest removing superfluous, non-plot details such as what song plays at what point and editorial comments, such as "The film then follows". Stick to what happens, not to what we as the audience see. Once the plot is cut down, I'll read it with a critical eye for prose issues.
  • Todd Eckert and Orian Williams are the producers. Deborah Curtis, Ian Curtis' widow, is a co-producer...: past tense.
  • The "Production" section in general requires more references. "Wilson was the one who gave Joy Division their TV break on the local magazine programme Granada Reports, and he also founded Factory Records, which released most of Joy Division's work" especially needs one.
  • I think that the "Production" section is missing some potential information. The "Soundtrack" section states that "all live Joy Division performances in the film are performed by the actors". Did these actors already have musical training? Did they have to train/rehearse before filming? Any reactions from them about performing in the film, what it was like, do they enjoy the music, etc? Music is such a huge part of the film, but it's not even mentioned here.
  • Curtis' daughter's cameo and "The Fall" mention seem somewhat trivial as they appear now; can they be contextualized as far as production goes? i.e., why did the director choose to have Natalie make a cameo? Did she say anything about the process? Why mention "The Fall" and Riley's past role at all?
  • The Weinstein Company secured the rights to release the film in North America after its success at Cannes." What success at Cannes? The only mention of Cannes before this is what is in the lead, which doesn't count. There needs to be info about its premiere within the body of the article.
  • The DVD was released in the U.K. on February 11, 2008, followed by the Australian DVD on March 12, 2008, and the North American DVD on June 3rd, 2008. Date fixes: link full dates and the last should be June 3, 2008 (without the "rd").
  • The film grossed box office of $7,824,260, with 89% of its revenue from foreign countries. "Foreign countries" is odd. "Outside of England"?
  • The first line of "Reception" should establish what is already stated in the lead: the film was generally well received by critics. Also, especially since it's mentioned in the lead, what have critics said specifically about Riley's performance?
  • On a side note, New Order is mentioned as having contributed to the soundtrack, but nowhere is it stated that Joy Division sans Curtis = Joy Division.

I think the article has a lot of potential, but it needs more work before it can be promoted to GA-status. I'll place the nomination process on hold until various issues and concerns have been addressed, but I plan on doing a second review once the above comments have been taken care of. When you're ready for the second review, or if you have any questions regarding anything I've said above, please leave me a note on my talk page. María (habla conmigo) 14:48, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

This nomination has been on hold for a week with little work done. Any updates? Is more time needed? If so, please let me know; otherwise I will have to fail the article for GAC at this time. María (habla conmigo) 13:26, 21 July 2008 (UTC)
As I've received no reply from the main contributors, and a majority of the outstanding issues above have not been addressed, I must fail this article's nomination for now. I greatly advise that the above suggestions be taken care of being renominating this article at WP:GAC. Best of luck, María (habla conmigo) 18:49, 22 July 2008 (UTC)
I intend to take upon the job of revising the article. When the above review was posted, I was very busy so did not have time to make revisions. Now I will gradually fix the problems and nominate it later. Regards. Chimeric Glider (talk) 15:52, 25 July 2008 (UTC)

Why?

With respect to any fans of Joy Division, the late Ian Curtis and those left behind it may be of contribution for somebody to attempt to write about the inspiration for this film. What the creators of this film were processing. Is there a positive or empathetic value from a human aspect being experienced through the films creation? Was it simply a good idea to exploit a cult following or an attempt to relate to the mindset of this particular pop culture? Is there perhaps a ray of hope in their intension that I overlooked or do I really need to listen to the music? I don't know what drove the creators of this story but I believe it could make the article more interesting. In making these suggestions I wish to acknowledge the art factor, creativity, excentric perception and the freedoms many of us value to tell a as story without judgement in a way we observe it. However, if anybody would like to add more depth to the reason for this film I personally would be interested to read about it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.2.125.128 (talkcontribs) 09:20, 22 November 2008 (UTC)

Someone should start the Annik Honoré article

She'd surely pass WP:N, but I don't have any source information at the moment about her.--h i s s p a c e r e s e a r c h 17:27, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

Is she notable for anything other than having an affair with him? His widow does not currently have an article. --Nietzsche 2 (talk) 17:01, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

Accuracy

I think that this page would benefit from a section on accuracy, similar to the article on The Buddy Holly Story. As a start, the first performance shown in the film was at the electric circus and was Leaders of Men, whereas in actual fact it was At A Later Date. --PLAN grey (talk) 09:08, 4 December 2009 (UTC)

Actor Sam Riley

Did Sam Riley actually sing at all in the film? Can someone confirm or deny this? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.145.131.11 (talkcontribs) 15:46, 8 May 2010 (UTC)
