Environment Act change 2010[edit]

In 2010 a group of citizens filed suit to prevent the Chinese-owned Ramu nickel mine from building a pipeline that would deposit mine waste into the ocean. The government responded by introducing amendments to the country’s Environment Act that would take away citizens' right to challenge government-sanctioned projects in court. In 2010 it was not signed yet as law.Human Rights Watch World Report 2011 pages 355-356 Watti Renew (talk) 12:55, 16 June 2011 (UTC) This amendment was reversed in January 2012, by Parliament under the then O'Neill-Namah Government ^[1][reply]
