Not really, to fully compact a sequence of sediments you need to bury them under several kms of later material to squeeze out all the water and if you erode the overlying sequence off later they don't decompact, there's no spring analogy here. I'm intending to add more material to this page, particularly talking about the effects of differential compaction due to lateral variations in thickness and lithology. The two subjects are obviously related and will inevitably overlap to a degree but the current consolidation (soil) article doesn't address much in the way of the large-scale geological process, in my view.
