The Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU) encompassed not only the Russian Federation but also all other republics within the Soviet Union, like the Ukraine and Kazakhstan; in many of those states there are still communist parties which can be seen as CPSU successors (see Union of Communist Parties – Communist Party of the Soviet Union).
