Move proposal[edit]

The name of this corps has been changed a while ago, but I guess it's a little hard to translate the new name. Please say your suggestions here. My suggestion would be to literally translate it—Combat Collection Corps. —Ynhockey (Talk) 14:23, 21 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Funnily enough, during my service in the IDF I had an argument with the then commander of the corps' training school about what the name of the corps should be in English. He tended to agree with the idea of translating the name literally, like you suggest, "Combat Collection Corps". However, I think it sounds misleading and just plain poor English. Is the corps about collecting combats? The verb "to collect" doesn't have the same meaning in English as it does in Hebrew (איסוף), where in Hebrew it can in this context mean visual intelligence gathering. My proposal was that the corps should be called "Reconnaissance Corps" in English because it most accurately approximates what the corps is about. He disagreed and I guess a colonel had a bigger say than a sergeant in this matter :) Either way, I believe "Combat Intelligence" instead of "Combat Collection" is a better middle ground. Should we rename the article "Field Intelligence Corps"? The official IDF website in English uses that name: https://www.idf.il/en/minisites/field-intelligence/ Yosy (talk) 15:29, 22 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
