Hi Elysia (Wiki Ed) I was just adding to this as one of my ILL books on her is due, and I was wondering, is it appropriate to reproduce the contents of the statement of purpose? It's in the holdings at howard and is also reproduced in one of the books I'm using on her (mary ann shadd cary, that is). — Preceding unsigned comment added by T. T. Danylevich ultimately, it depends on how much content you want to quote and the licensing of the statement. If it was published before 1924, then the book is part of the public domain and can be used indiscrimately without fear of infringing copyright. If the book is in copyright, then you can still quote from it, but the quotations need to be "brief" (unfortunately not a better guideline than that) and not excessive.
