I saw what I thought was kind of a huge void in Wikipedia's offerings -- namely this topic -- and wanted to do something that would be useful to people, particularly parents and students trying to navigate the college admissions process. Newspapers & magazines give a lot of ink to it (particularly in April when acceptances & rejections become finalized, and students must pick schools. Plus the process is changing rapidly, and schools (many in the mid-range) are having to scramble for students, while parents are getting huge sticker shock from the looming expenses. There may be some overlap with other articles, but this article tries to put it together. I tried to make it less advise-y and neutral sounding, like it would reflect what was out there in the media -- the differing views, and be hopefully encyclopedic. It could use perhaps a better organization, and I think better pictures can be found sooner or later, but it's tough plowing through the Commons finding good ones.--Tomwsulcer (talk) 02:45, 19 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed merger of this article into College admissions in the United States[edit]

Two topics -- College admissions in the United States and College admissions counseling in the United States, have much in common. The first article at this point (May 2012) is only 16K in length, with few references; the second is about 100K with many references. I think having two separate articles will confuse people; in addition, the subject content of both articles has much overlap.
