Ancestor of Clan Boyd[edit]

The statement currently on the page that Robert the first Boyd was a nephew of Walter Fitz Alan is rather vague in terms of what is commonly alleged. Both Round's Peerage and William Boyd's History of the Boyd Family state that this Robert was a son of Simon Fitz Alan, whose parentage is disputed but who has been often said to be a son of Alan Fitz Flaald or possibly a son of Flaald's wife only and a "bastard brother" to the other more well-established sons including Walter Fitz Alan. So to simply say Robert was "a nephew" of Walter Fitz Alan is making things seem more well-established than they really are. Safulop (talk) 17:54, 23 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Well if you want to make any changes you will have to provide sources to verify it. The article as it stands is based on the sources being quoted - which is what Wikipedia is about - reflecting what the sources say. Any unsourced information can be challenged and removed. I am the original editor of the article in its current form so have verified the sources. However, if you have other sources, especially online then they can be incorporated into the article. What we could do is mention the various versions of the origins of the clan based on the different sources.QuintusPetillius (talk) 19:10, 23 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
