– Clackmannan, the town, is the clear primary topic ahead of the defunct district Nilfanion (talk) 21:29, 5 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Clackmannan, ClackmannanshireClackmannan, ScotlandClackmannanshire provides no context as to location of Clackmannan, whereas Scotland does.--Nilfanion (talk) 21:43, 3 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This is an exception to Wikipedia:Naming conventions (geographic names)#Scotland, but the same exception is in place for England. See Talk:Lincoln, England#Move to Lincoln, England and Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions (geographic names)/Archives/2010/October#England - county towns for previous discussion.

That said, I have a feeling that the town is might be the primary topic, ahead of the defunct district - in which case move this to Clackmannan and the district article to Clackmannan (district) (or similar).--Nilfanion (talk) 21:43, 3 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, the "exception" argument would work, but I agree that the town is the primary topic and that the district article that should be moved to something else. "Clackmannan (district)" does seem to be consistent with other usage. There is a similar discussion at Talk:Clackmannan from some time ago but if you leave a "move" note there and there are no further objections or ideas after (say) seven day, just go ahead. There are lots of links to be fixed as well. Ben MacDui 07:28, 5 August 2011 (UTC) PS Let me know if you need any help.[reply]

Actually looking at this now move Clackmannan, ClackmannanshireClackmannan and ClackmannanClackmannan (district). It may be better in longer run to merge the article about Clackmannan district into Clackmannanshire but that's a seperate issue. (I orignally based the move rationale on Clackmannan being a non-unique place name, not with the other use being the district).
I've fixed the move request to reflect real situation. And I can do a AWB run to sort things out once the pages are sorted.--Nilfanion (talk) 21:29, 5 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
