Found great reference, expanded the article, still needs map & more references[edit]

I just expanded the article some more. Found a great reference:

However, some newspaper references perhaps would help too. Nashua Telegraph only allows subscribers to access their archives. Does anyone know of a good news-archive site that might allows access to some of these articles? There looks like a LOT of good articles that might help here.

Also, we need to create a map for the road. Optimally, this should include:

  • The current section highlighted
  • The proposed "full build" routing for the future highway
  • The proposed alternative routings given in the above references

Any ideas?

Answering Ken's edit summary question...[edit]

The Sagamore Bridge project was completed in stages during the 1990s. I'm working mostly from memory, and I am sure that old copies of The Telegraph would cover it, but I'm fairly certain that the bridge was doubled by 1992 (when I got my driver's licence) and not much before that. The original Sagamore bridge terminated at both ends with a simple stoplight at the river side of both roads (DW Highway and Lowell Road), and was a two-lane bridge. The second span was installed probably around 1991-1992, but the termini didn't change configuration much. On the Nashua side, at the same time as the second span was added, there was a split installed towards the end of the bridge that divided southbound and northbound DW Highway traffic. DW highway-bound traffic used the same stoplight as before, (essentially directly under where the overpass is now) but they added an onramp from northbound DW highway to the Sagamore bridge where the current on/off ramps are to the south of the overpass. The current configuration didn't open until probably 1998 or 1999 (I'm pretty sure I had graduated college by then) if not later, as was part of the massive US 3 rebuild that added the third lane to US3 and built the Exit 2/Exit 1A ramps and rebuilt the approaches to Exit 1 (Spit Brook Road). The Hudson side configuration was changed at around the same time that Lowell Road was widened in that area, which coincided with the opening of Sam's Club and Walmart, probably around 1993-1994, when they rearranged the road to allow for the Circumferential Highway to continue on straight, which of course, they never have. --Jayron32 13:50, 28 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
