Page expansion[edit]

Sextus Caedicius here, This page needs some expansion, I saw that the creation of this article was on your to-do list so you might be interested in expanding this article @Al Ameer son: Sextus Caedicius (talk) 19:04, 27 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Sextus Caedicius: Long overdue. it’s been on mind for a while. Thanks for taking the initiative, I’ll try to work on it very soon so that we could nominate it for DYK. —Al Ameer (talk) 21:01, 27 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Histmerge[edit]

Requesting a merging of history of this page and the article with the title "Circassian Jordanians". The original article contributors aren't mentioned in the history of this page because two editors have moved this page multiple times. --Sextus Caedicius (talk) 20:09, 1 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Sextus Caedicius I have never personally performed a history merge. But I thought you would like to know that WP:SPLICE contains the procedures for requesting a merge. Good luck. — Maile (talk) 22:45, 1 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Naming fashion[edit]

It would be great if you two @Makeandtoss: and @M900417: could consult with the talk page and try to arrive at some sort of consensus before moving pages on a whim, it messes with the editing history. I am of the belief that this page should be named the way it was originally. I.e. Armenians in Jordan Germans of Hungary Armenians in Syria Germans in the Czech Republic Hungarians in Serbia etc. Pinging @Al Ameer son: for his input as well. --Sextus Caedicius (talk) 20:47, 1 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah not sure what happened here. Either name would be correct but Circassians in Jordan would be more consistent with Circassians in Syria and Circassians in Israel. I will try to undo the recent change until we could come to an agreement here. —Al Ameer (talk) 01:27, 2 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • ... that Circassian settlers in Jordan founded modern Amman in 1878? Source: Hanania (2018), p. 1, "Amman was once a vibrant city with a long history of continued settlement. By the mid-fourteenth century, the city succumbed to plague and depopulation, leaving Amman devoid of settlement until the immigration of Circassians in the late nineteenth century. Modern Amman was developed as part of the Ottoman Empire’s modernisation efforts in the late nineteenth century." The specific year 1878 and the details of the Circassian settlement from that year onward is supported by Hanania (2018) on pages 2–3, in addition to the existing sources in article, Rogan and Shami.

General: Article is new enough and long enough

Policy compliance:

Hook eligibility:

  • Cited: Yes
  • Interesting: Yes
  • Other problems: No - the hook is hooky enough but the statement that "Circassians founded Amman" seems mildly inaccurate or an overstatement and conflicts with Wikipedia's own history of Amman. This might be solved by changing "Circassians founded modern Amman", but I would like to see wording to this effect in a source.

QPQ: No - Not done
Overall: The article is well-written and well-sourced — generally a fine piece. The particular page cited in the hook is offline for me, but other pages are cited in other parts of the article, so I AGF but worry about the wording (nb above). Can the nominator/editors give a quote from the book or suggest a ALT hook? (And provide QPQ link?) —  AjaxSmack  22:36, 7 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

He also indicated that here.VR talk 13:41, 8 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@AjaxSmack and Vice regent: I have clarified in the article with new source, and quoted source in hook above. Do I need to make an ALT hook to add the word "modern" before "Amman", or could I just revise the original hook accordingly? QPQ on the way! Al Ameer (talk) 18:34, 8 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I made it a bit more explicit in the lead. I think just modifying the original hook should be fine.VR talk 20:05, 8 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Vice regent; @AjaxSmack: Modified the hook to read "modern Amman", QPQ now done. --Al Ameer (talk) 18:18, 9 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hook has been modified and confirmed with online source. QPQ done.  AjaxSmack  02:50, 10 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
