Proposed merge with Cinema for Peace Foundation[edit]

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section. A summary of the conclusions reached follows.
No consensus, however you may perform the merge per WP:BOLD and take accountability for it. MorningThoughts (talk) 16:20, 21 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

It seems to me that these two subjects have overlap and intertwined context and I don't think these two subjects are necessarily independently notable of each other. Cinema for Peace is described in its article as a "group based in the United States" or "initiative", and Cinema for Peace Foundation is described in its article has a "registered, non-profit organization based in Berlin, Germany". CfP hasn't has a valid website since early 2017, but the CfP Foundation, with a longer domain name, is still around at https://www.cinemaforpeace-foundation.org/ and the subpage https://www.cinemaforpeace-foundation.org/our-vision seems to conflate the two subjects. Neither one has good sourcing. Closeapple (talk) 06:18, 25 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Untitled[edit]

The Criticism part in the current Cinema for Peace entry seems to be defamatory and damages the reputation of the organization. Therefore, we hereby once again ask to delete this part. Background: For the seperate entities Cinema for Peace Gala and the Cinema for Peace Foundation all fundraising has been documented and audited since 2002 by Tax Consultant and Public Accountant Dr. Harald Grams, 33602 Bielefeld; Marion Trieß, Tax Consultant and Public Accountant, Kanzlei Auren KG, 72108 Rothenburg; Michael Helm, Public Accountant and Tax Consultant, Dentons GmbH Public Accountants, 10117 Berlin, and in addition also annually by the foundation supervisory office of the Senate administration of Berlin. There has been no criticism at any point. Please advise how to proceed. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2003:EC:CF2A:D5FB:BD6D:782A:D29:721E (talk) 09:18, 3 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Gaddafi never was an invited speaker at Cinema for Peace. Therefore, his name was deleted from the speakers' list. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2003:EC:CF2A:D5E6:8597:3DE3:39BA:AA3D (talk) 11:22, 4 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Inaccurate Content[edit]

The edits made by "Echoofbunnymen2019" (listed as with COI) on 3rd of October 2019 seems like an effort to damage the reputation of the entity. Calling upon administrators or editors to revert the article as per 10:11, 1 October 2019‎.

Background: The texts on Saif al-Islam Gaddafi is incorrect, as the cited article itself specifies he came as a guest of CDU franking chief Friedbert Pflüger, and not of Cinema for Peace. It is clear that "Echoofbunnymen2019" has an interest to damage the reputation by those choices of words, and repeating the same texts multiple times throughout the article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Oslo95 (talkcontribs) 13:53, 27 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Can this article be reverted back to the version as per 10:11, 1 October 2019? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Oslo95 (talkcontribs) 13:55, 27 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Well, which bit do you think is incorrect, Oslo95? According to Die Welt, he was invited, he came, he was booed (hissed? whistled at? – my German unfortunately does not extent to ausgepfiffen). I've removed all references to the International Criminal Court from the page, because I can't see that it has any special relevance to this event. I've also made a start on cleaning the page up, so would oppose a revert to the version you suggest. But I'll leave it to someone else to close your request in whatever way they think best. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 19:20, 27 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

To clarify, the statement "guest of Cinema for Peace" would mean Cinema for Peace invited him. The article from Die Welt clearly mentions (in para 3, line 3)that he was invited by the wife of CDU politician Friedbert Pflüger. Guests of Cinema for Peace brings plus 1 and are not always disclosed. Furthermore, the event also had the chief prosecutor of ICC there. By mentioning Gaddafi as a guest and ignoring all nuances, it is clear that the intention of the edit was to single out this inaccurate statement with an intend to damage. I understand if we have to mention it, but considering this could be of damage to the organization, I think it is important to consider/mention the nuances and mention the controversy as it is. All contents I have added were taken away citing COI, the person who added this (user "Echoofbunnymen2019") is also cited as COI, and I guess it is only fair to take those contributions out too. I understand if you still don't want to revert back to that version, but then I would propose to take out Gaddafi's name and mention the controversy in a separate section called 'controversies', along with the nuances. --Oslo95 (talk) 09:18, 28 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

"Berlin - Based"[edit]

Cinema for Peace is an Initiative, which is different from the Berlin-based Cinema for Peace Foundation (registered Organisation) or Cinema for Peace Gala. Cinema for Peace has had offices under it in the past in other places, like Los Angeles or in Bosnia. "Berlin Based organization" is incorrect as it is not Berlin Based, nor a registered organisation --Oslo95 (talk) 15:26, 5 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Oslo95, are you suggesting that the awards and screenings and so on are NOT organised by the Cinema for Peace Foundation, which according to this page has its office in Berlin? And which according to this page is responsible for the various events. Can you explain what you mean? Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 19:43, 5 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Cinema for Peace (initiative) is different from Cinema for Peace Foundation (registered org). Screenings are organized by the foundation, so are some of the activities. Cinema for Peace Gala (Event) is NOT organized by Cinema for Peace Foundation or by the Cinema for Peace initiative but produced by another production company to benefit Cinema for Peace Foundation and other charities like UNICEF, UNHCR, CTAOP, Mary's Meals. The awards, however, are awarded by Cinema for Peace Initiative, which includes Cinema for Peace Foundation's management as well as other parties such as their Jury, Academy, and filmmakers involved. The only registered body here is Cinema for Peace Foundation, the links you sent belongs to that. --Oslo95 (talk) 11:25, 6 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

May I call upon Justlettersandnumbers or other editors to change the first paragraph to the version as per 15:20, 5 June 2020? Conflating Cinema for Peace and Cinema for Peace Foundation would be misleading to the readers. They are separate entities. --Oslo95 (talk) 08:47, 10 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Your sources? Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 10:17, 10 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The version as per 10:17, 10 June 2020 has the sources that the award ceremonies were not just in Berlin, but also Los Angeles, New York, Cannes, and Kampala. The other modification is to change "Berlin-based organization" to initiative. Cinema for Peace Foundation is an organization, Cinema for Peace is merely an initiative.--Oslo95 (talk) 14:51, 10 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Resolved The current text is: "...is an initiative that..." Any further requests to change the lead sentence should be created with reliable sources that substantiate the requested edit. Eggishorn (talk) (contrib) 23:04, 2 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Criticisms section[edit]

Justlettersandnumbers, my recent edit, moving criticisms from the "Activities" section to the "Criticisms" section was reverted by you. Requesting you to put it back as it does not make sense to have a section called Activities and have nothing except activities in there. The revert also takes away other edits made by Eggishorn.

In addition, the criticisms also need to be reworked as the allegations are factually untrue. Grounds: Mr. Kosslick was ordered by the district court of Berlin to stop publishing/allowing to publish the following allegations: 1. "For seven years I have been demanding that the organizers disclose who gets how much money and what happens to the donations." (found in Blickpunkt: film article paragraph 2) 2. "... that this event advertises with the Berlinale." (found in the FR article, paragraph five; and in Blickpunkt: film article paragraph 2) 3. "The organizer Jaka Bizilj runs around in Hollywood and says that this is the human rights event of the Berlinale."(found in the FR article, paragraph five; in stern article paragraph six; and in Blickpunkt: film article paragraph 2) 4. "And nobody asks who the donations are going to. All you can see is that Katherine Deneuve is there, but she got 100,000 euros for it in the first year." (found in Blickpunkt: film article paragraph 2)

Requesting admins to look into the matter and not let Wikipedia be a platform for competitors to vandalize and profit. Mr. Kosslick was a competitor for Cinema for Peace regarding sponsors. Any other criticisms must be mentioned in a separate section called criticisms, to maintain the coherence of the article. --Oslo95 (talk) 09:35, 8 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I have removed this edit [1] because it was clearly made by an editor in a position of conflict of interest. However, I have undone my own edit [2] because it looks like the edit summary contained a legal threat and we should not overlook those. I will let the page watchers decide what should be done with this edit. In any case, this editor has obviously been reported to WP:UAA.--JBchrch (talk) 14:30, 18 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
