Wirth's involvement with Chelmno is incorrect[edit]

The section that discusses Wirth's involvement with Chelmno is incorrect. Throughout the Aktion Reinhard (AR) campaign in the General Government, Wirth continued in his role as Inspector of the three camps (Belzec, Sobibor and Treblinka), after which, along with AR's commander, Odilo Globocnik, he was transferred to north-western Italy (the OZAK military area). While there, Wirth commanded Einstazkommando-R. This unit was made up of staff from the AR camps, and divided into EKR-1 (Trieste, based in the Risiera di San Sabba camp), EKR-2 (Fiume) and EKR-3 (Udine). Its roles included anti-Partisan operations as well as the arrest and murder of Jews, Gypsies and other "enemies". After his death at the hands of partisans, Wirth's role was occupied briefly by his Belzec deputy commander, Gottlieb Hering, then by Dieter Allers.

Chelmno was not a part of Aktion Reinhard, nor was it located in the General Government. It was set up by the leadership of the annexed Wartheland territory (centred on Posen/Poznan) to murder the very large Jewish community of Lodz. Responsible figures included the Gauleiter, Artur Greiser; the HSSPF, Wilhelm Koppe; and the head of the Lodz ghetto administration, Hans Biebow. Chelmno camp commanders were Herbert Lange, followed by Hans Bothmann. Unlike the T4/Aktion Reinhard organisation, Chelmno was not a construct of the Fuhrer Chancellory, instead reporting to the Wartheland administration.
