Date of Founding[edit]

There's a problem with this article. The statement that Chrislam was founded "two decades ago" is very unfortunate, because when will two decades become three decades? It is much better to state a specific year, i.e. 1986, or if such accurate data cannot be retrieved, state an approximate period or interval, such as "in the mid 1980's" or "at some point from 1983 to 1985" or even state a year but indicate uncertainty with a question mark, as in "1987(?)".--Peter Knutsen 13:12, 6 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm interested in editing this if I know more. In the meantime, without any recognized authority, I'm asking the Baha'i faith to surrender to this faith under reasoned terms. I think it's likely that the original is correct, but I don't know enough about the authority structure of the Baha'i faith, its members' personal perspectives, or, perhaps most importantly, how the notion might impact people outside of the two faiths (with whatever sects). I am only going on in the presumption that this space is allowable to a very limited extent within Wikipedia, not being about editing an article per se. The Baha'i religion names 8 'Manifestations of God' (at last reading in the Oxford Encyclopedia of Religion). I see where this comes from, somewhat, but see myself a host of human centers--with one specific highly profound one purely religiously at 8 past times--in all human times, and I am not absolutely sure how to construe this reality precisely at present. At any rate, I support this as an option if it is one. I don't have time to relay or work on this non-editing topic inside this encyclopedia; and, as pointed out, it isn't the forum for it ultimately anyway.Julzes (talk) 18:34, 1 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

There is an entirely different movement, irrespective of the Nigerian sect, which tries to embrace both Christianity and Islam. Adherents live in the US, Europe, the Middle East, etc. More people follow the movement I'm speaking of than the Nigerian sect. Appropriation[edit]

Some loony on TV today was pushing a conspiracy theory that Christian churches were becoming islamized. He was flogging this book. I don't know if it's worth mentioning here. The conspiracy the guy had in mind involved everyone from Bill Clinton to Oprah Winfrey, along with a word-salad of sins including, for instance, "incontinence" as one of the sinful practices of this supposed miscegeny of a religion. While I'm sure that this fringe Christian apologist has nothing to do with the actual subject of the article, he does seem to have appropriated its topic for his own gain. There are plenty of loonies out there mocking as "Chrislam" (and cursing) the various Christian-Muslim Unity projects which abound in the world. However, the past few years have increasingly seen the term being adopted by many of these projects themselves almost in a sort of defiance of their critics. Notability[edit]

The religion of Chrislam is a relatively new religion (founded in the early 1970s) held by approximately 1,500 people (less than .00002% of the world's population), the adherents of which having made no significant impact outside of one (otherwise not notable) community in relationship to their faith or practice. I can find only a dozen or so sources of information, only three of which seem to have any level of academic and/or professional reliability. I am of the opinion that based on the lack of evidence present in this article and what I could find elsewhere, this religion has not met the notability requirement as a subject for an article. I have posted this concern with a request for feedback on the notice board. I will wait one week for any person to offer evidence of notability before I move forward on AFD. sheesh, its a random term used on youtube to conflate two syncretistic cults in Nigeria. If the cults are notable, let each stand on its own under WP:NOTE. All speculation on the theological (in)compatibility of Christianity and Islam is beside the point, it's syncretism in Nigeria. Primary meaning?[edit]

The term is a straightforward portmanteau of Christianity+Islam and is used in more than one sense.

"Chrislam" in Nigeria appears to be a very minor phenomenon, with adherents in the four(!) digits within a population in the eight (Yoruba) or low nine (Nigeria) digits.

Currently, google suggests its primary use is as a derogatory term in Evangelicalism. [1][2]

It may be best to turn this into a disambiguation page, pointing to Yoruba religious syncretism (or similar) and Evangelicalism and Islam (or similar). --dab (𒁳) 16:22, 29 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
