Sandcastles?[edit]

The child near the 'King of the Hill' game is playing 'sandcastles'? Really ? In 16th century Holland?

Sandcastle-building is a seaside game. It emerged in the U.K. in the early 19th century when sea-bathing became the fashion, and an affluent middle class had emerged to explore the arts of leisure long enjoyed by their betters.

I doubt that any of these depicted children ever visited the seaside, at least for pleasure alone, and for that matter, ever went on a vacation.
